Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Restaurant General Manager
Verify your role meets specialty standards
TN classification for management roles hinges on demonstrating that the position requires specialized knowledge beyond general supervision. Document your scope: P&L ownership, multi-unit oversight, or franchise compliance duties all strengthen the occupational argument.
Gather credential equivalency letters early
If your hospitality or business degree is from a Canadian or Mexican institution, get a credential evaluation completed before outreach begins. CBP officers can and do question foreign degree equivalency at ports of entry.
Target multi-unit and franchise operators first
Chains managing 10 or more locations have HR teams familiar with cross-border hiring and existing TN documentation templates. Independent single-location restaurants rarely have the infrastructure to support a first-time TN sponsorship.
Ask employers about their E-Verify enrollment status
Federal contractors and employers in certain states must use E-Verify to confirm work authorization. Confirming enrollment before accepting an offer prevents onboarding delays after your TN is approved.
Search for TN-ready roles using Migrate Mate
Filter Restaurant General Manager openings by employer visa sponsorship experience using Migrate Mate. It surfaces employers with recent visa filings, so you spend less time educating HR teams about work visa processes from scratch.
Prepare a compliant offer letter before crossing
Canadian citizens applying at the border must present an offer letter naming the TN category, job duties, and employment period. A letter that omits the USMCA occupational category or uses vague duty language is the most common reason for port-of-entry denials.

Find Restaurant General Manager JobsRestaurant General Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Restaurant General Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
It can, but the classification depends on how the role is framed. CBP typically approves Restaurant General Manager positions under the Management Consultant category when the duties involve directing complex, multi-unit, or franchise operations with clear analytical and operational responsibilities. Single-location roles with primarily supervisory duties are harder to qualify. Your offer letter must tie specific duties to the USMCA occupational definition.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Restaurant General Manager roles?
TN has no annual cap for Canadians and no lottery for either nationality, which means you can start as soon as your employer is ready. H-1B requires entering a lottery that selects fewer than one in four registrants and has a wait of up to a year before employment can begin. For qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals, TN is a faster and more predictable path to the same outcome.
Can I switch Restaurant General Manager employers while on a TN visa?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization before starting with the new employer. Canadians can apply at a port of entry with a new offer letter. Mexican citizens must obtain a new visa stamp at a U.S. consulate. You cannot simply transfer the existing TN from one restaurant group to another, and working for the new employer before receiving authorization violates your status.
How do I find Restaurant General Manager jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship history, so you can identify restaurant groups and food service operators that have successfully sponsored TN workers before. This matters because employers unfamiliar with TN often decline to sponsor even when the role qualifies, not because of cost but because of uncertainty about the process.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer needs to provide a signed offer letter that includes the specific USMCA occupational category, a description of duties tied to that category, the duration of employment, and your job title. For Mexican citizens, the employer may also need to support a DS-160 application and consular interview. Neither nationality requires the employer to file a petition with USCIS, which is what makes TN processing significantly faster than H-1B.
