Frame your credentials around management consulting
TN visa status for Security Consultants is granted under the Management Consultant category. Your resume and credential documents need to connect security advisory work to organizational decision-making, not just technical implementation or IT support roles.
Get your degree equivalency documented early
CBP officers evaluate your credentials at entry. If your degree is from a Mexican or Canadian institution and its equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's isn't obvious from the title, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization before you start interviewing.
Target employers already running compliance or risk programs
Companies with active USCIS filing history for management-track roles are more likely to understand the TN process. Focus your search on organizations with formal security, risk, or regulatory functions rather than early-stage startups with no HR infrastructure.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready security consulting employers
Search Migrate Mate to filter Security Consultant roles by TN visa sponsorship. The platform surfaces employers who have filed for similar roles, so you spend time on opportunities where sponsorship is already part of the hiring conversation.
Negotiate who prepares the support letter before you accept
Canadians crossing at the port of entry need a TN support letter from the employer. Clarify during the offer stage which person drafts it, what credentials it references, and whether HR or an outside counsel handles preparation, delays here hold up your start date.
Understand what triggers a CBP request for evidence at entry
Officers may ask for client engagement letters, a detailed role description, or proof of an advisory rather than permanent employment relationship. Carrying a concise support package beyond just the offer letter reduces the chance of a secondary inspection at the border.
Security Consultant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Security Consultant qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Yes, Security Consultants qualify under the TN Management Consultant category. The role must involve providing security-related advice to organizations at a decision-making level, not purely technical execution or staffing functions. Your job title doesn't have to say 'management consultant', what matters is that the actual work fits the advisory definition CBP uses to evaluate TN petitions at entry.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Security Consultants compare to H-1B?
TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no USCIS petition filing. Canadian citizens can be approved at a port of entry on the same day they present their credentials. H-1B visa requires an employer to file a petition, wait for USCIS processing, and survive random lottery selection. For Security Consultants whose role fits the Management Consultant category, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. work authorization.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to provide a support letter on company letterhead that describes the role, confirms it is a Management Consultant position under USMCA, states your qualifications, and specifies the duration and compensation arrangement. Canadian applicants present this letter directly to CBP at the port of entry. Mexican applicants submit it as part of the consular visa application package. The letter is the employer's primary contribution to your TN application.
Where can I find Security Consultant jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers. You can search for Security Consultant roles and filter by TN visa sponsorship, which surfaces employers who have already indicated willingness to support the process. This is more efficient than applying broadly and discovering after an offer that a company's HR team has no experience with TN filings.
Can Mexican citizens use TN sponsorship for Security Consultant roles the same way Canadians can?
Mexican citizens qualify for TN status in Security Consultant roles but go through consular processing rather than port-of-entry approval. You apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico, present the employer support letter and your credentials, and receive a TN visa stamp before traveling. The substantive requirements are identical to the Canadian process, but the timeline is longer because consular scheduling adds steps that Canadians skip entirely.
