Align your degree to the right TN category
TN approval for UX Writer roles hinges on which occupational category your employer selects. A communications or English degree maps more cleanly to a Writer category; a human-computer interaction degree can support a Computer Systems Analyst classification. Make sure your support letter matches your credential.
Get your employer's support letter right
The TN support letter must name your specific duties, your degree, and the preclassified occupation. For UX Writer roles, vague language like 'content creation' gets scrutinized. Specify information architecture, microcopy, and design system documentation to anchor the role in professional specialty.
Target employers with dedicated UX teams
Companies with established UX research and product design functions already understand how to classify content design roles under TN. Focus your search on organizations where UX Writing is a distinct team function, not bundled under marketing or general communications.
Search TN-verified roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior UX Writer job listings by TN visa sponsorship availability. The platform surfaces employers who have filed TN petitions for content and UX roles, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the classification.
Prepare for port-of-entry review as a Canadian
Canadian citizens adjudicate TN status at the border, not through USCIS. Bring your signed support letter, degree transcripts, and a portfolio summary that demonstrates specialty-level UX writing. CBP officers review the occupational classification on the spot, so your documents must be self-explanatory.
Clarify the classification before signing an offer
Ask the hiring team which TN occupational category they intend to use before you accept an offer. If they have not filed TN petitions for UX Writers before, connect them with a TN-experienced immigration contact early, while the offer is still being finalized.

Find Senior UX Writer JobsSenior UX Writer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior UX Writer role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, but the specific TN category depends on how the employer frames the position. Roles emphasizing written communication and content strategy often qualify under the Writer or Technical Writer category. Roles tied closely to software product development may qualify under Computer Systems Analyst. Your degree and the job duties described in the support letter must align with whichever category the employer selects.
How does TN visa sponsorship for UX Writers compare to H-1B?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, so approval is not left to chance the way H-1B is. The process is also faster: Canadians can receive TN status at a port of entry on the same day. The trade-off is that TN does not lead directly to a green card and requires active employment with a sponsoring employer at all times.
What documents do I need to support my TN application as a UX Writer?
You need a support letter from your employer on company letterhead that identifies the preclassified TN occupation, describes your specific UX writing duties, states your start date, and confirms your compensation structure. You also need official transcripts or a degree certificate showing a relevant field such as communications, linguistics, English, or human-computer interaction. A portfolio is not required but can help clarify the specialty nature of the role.
How do I find Senior UX Writer jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings specifically by TN visa sponsorship availability, so you can identify employers who have already navigated the classification process for content and UX roles. Applying to companies with prior TN filing experience for similar roles significantly reduces the risk of a misclassification issue or a delayed offer.
Can Mexican citizens get TN sponsorship for UX Writer roles?
Yes. Mexican citizens are eligible for TN status under USMCA, but the process differs from Canada. You must apply through a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at a port of entry, and a consular appointment is required. The same occupational category rules apply, and you will need the employer support letter, degree documentation, and a completed DS-160 application form.
