Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Social Media Strategy
Align your degree to the role description
TN approval hinges on your degree matching the job title your employer uses. A marketing or communications degree supports Management Consultant; a computer science degree supports Computer Systems Analyst. Mismatches between your credential and the listed title are the most common denial trigger for this role.
Request a TN-specific offer letter
Ask your employer to draft an offer letter that states the TN category, your specific duties, your degree field, and that the position is temporary. Generic offer letters written for H-1B or permanent roles routinely cause delays or CBP denials for Social Media Strategy applicants.
Target employers with defined digital marketing teams
Companies with in-house content or demand-generation teams are more likely to classify Social Media Strategy as a specialty role than those treating it as general marketing. Look for employers with recent visa filings for Management Consultant or Computer Systems Analyst positions in marketing contexts—this shows experience with visa sponsorship and suggests they understand specialized role classifications.
Use Migrate Mate to filter TN-sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to find companies actively sponsoring TN visas for strategy and digital marketing roles. It surfaces employer filing history so you can prioritize outreach to organizations already familiar with the TN process rather than educating a new HR team from scratch.
Prepare for Mexican citizens' consular processing timeline
Mexican nationals cannot use CBP port-of-entry processing and must schedule a consular interview. Build at least four to six weeks into your start date negotiation to account for appointment availability and administrative processing, and confirm your employer is comfortable with that window before accepting an offer.
Document the strategic scope of your role in writing
CBP officers assess whether Social Media Strategy work constitutes a theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge. Before your entry, get your employer to document that your duties include analytics, campaign architecture, or platform strategy rather than content production or scheduling alone.

Find Social Media Strategy JobsSocial Media Strategy TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Social Media Strategy qualify as a TN visa occupation?
It can, but the classification depends on how your employer frames the role. Social Media Strategy work filed under Management Consultant requires duties that are predominantly analytical and advisory. If the role involves systems integration or data-driven platform management, Computer Systems Analyst may apply. Neither category explicitly lists social media, so the offer letter language and your degree alignment are critical to a successful TN filing.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Social Media Strategy professionals?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, so you can file anytime a qualifying job offer exists. H-1B requires registration in March and selection by lottery, with a cap of 85,000 visas annually. For Social Media Strategy roles, TN is faster and more predictable for Canadians, though it requires a USMCA-eligible occupation classification that not every employer will know how to document correctly.
What degree do I need for a TN visa in Social Media Strategy?
You need a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the TN category your employer uses. Marketing, communications, or business degrees typically support a Management Consultant classification. Computer science or information systems degrees support Computer Systems Analyst. A degree in an unrelated field, even with years of relevant experience, will not substitute for the required credential in a TN application.
How can I find employers who already sponsor TN visas for this role?
Migrate Mate lets you search for companies with an active history of TN visa sponsorship in marketing and strategy roles. Targeting employers who have filed before means you avoid the back-and-forth of explaining the TN process to an HR team that has never handled one, which can derail timelines even after an offer is extended.
Can I switch employers while on TN status in a Social Media Strategy role?
Yes, but you must obtain a new TN authorization before starting with the new employer. Canadian citizens can do this at a port of entry with a new offer letter and supporting documents. Mexican nationals must return to a U.S. consulate. You cannot use a grace period to work for a new employer under your existing TN, so plan the transition around your new employer's ability to support the filing first.
