Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Speech Language Pathology
Verify your credentials meet TN requirements
TN visa eligibility for Speech Language Pathology requires at least a bachelor's degree in the field. Many U.S. employers also expect a Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA, so confirm your Canadian or Mexican credentials align before applying.
Target employers with dedicated credentialing teams
Hospital systems, pediatric therapy networks, and large school districts process TN sponsorship regularly. Smaller private practices often don't have immigration infrastructure, so filter your search toward organizations that already coordinate professional licensing and visa paperwork internally.
Distinguish your provincial license from U.S. licensure
Your Canadian or Mexican SLP license doesn't transfer automatically. Employers sponsoring your TN will expect you to obtain a state license separately. Research reciprocity pathways and timeline expectations for your target state before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Speech Language Pathology roles at employers actively offering TN visa sponsorship. Filtering by sponsorship history helps you avoid wasting applications on organizations unfamiliar with the TN process.
Clarify whether the employer will handle the TN filing
Canadians can present TN documentation directly at a port of entry without advance USCIS filing. Ask prospective employers upfront who prepares the support letter, since some organizations expect you to coordinate an immigration attorney yourself.
Request a detailed support letter before your border appointment
CBP officers adjudicate Canadian TN petitions on the spot. Your employer's support letter must specify your SLP role, required degree, and that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gaps or vague job descriptions are a common reason for same-day denials.
Speech Language Pathology TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Speech Language Pathology qualify for the TN visa?
Yes. Speech Language Pathology is an explicitly listed occupation in the USMCA TN visa schedule. To qualify, you must hold at least a bachelor's degree in speech language pathology or a directly related field and have a job offer from a U.S. employer. The role must match the occupational definition as assessed by a CBP officer or USCIS.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for SLP professionals?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and can be obtained at a Canadian port of entry the same day. The H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with limited annual slots and a months-long USCIS process. For Canadian and Mexican SLPs with a job offer in hand, the TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Do I need ASHA certification to get TN visa sponsorship as an SLP?
ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence is not a legal TN requirement, but many U.S. employers treat it as a hiring prerequisite. Some states also require it for full licensure. If your Canadian or Mexican training doesn't align with ASHA standards, confirm with the employer whether a clinical fellowship year or additional credentialing is expected before sponsorship is extended.
Where can I find Speech Language Pathology jobs with TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Speech Language Pathology roles at employers offering TN visa sponsorship, which saves time compared to applying broadly and discovering late that an organization doesn't support the TN process. Targeting employers with a documented sponsorship history significantly increases the likelihood of a smooth offer and filing experience.
Can my TN visa be renewed if I change SLP employers?
Yes, but a new TN petition is required each time you change employers. TN status is employer-specific, so your existing approval doesn't transfer. Canadians can apply for a new TN at a port of entry with documentation from the new employer. Mexicans must file with USCIS. Plan the timing carefully to avoid a gap in authorized work status between positions.
