WHAT YOU'LL DO:
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to operate in a Project Engineer role on a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary development program. This role requires strong systems‑level thinking, broad technical capability, and the ability to coordinate complex engineering efforts across hardware, software, integration, and test!
While deep sensing expertise is not required on day one, the ideal candidate has the technical foundation, curiosity, and systems perspective to quickly grow into the role of a sensing‑focused Project Engineer, owning technical direction and cross‑domain integration for sensing‑driven systems.
You will serve as a technical integrator and leader—driving alignment across teams, leading technical tradeoffs, and ensuring focused execution from concept through delivery.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
Technical Leadership & System Integration
- Act as the Project Engineer for a major development effort, owning system‑level technical coordination across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Define and maintain system architectures, interfaces, and technical requirements, ensuring consistency and traceability.
- Lead technical trade studies and decision‑making across performance, risk, schedule, and cost.
- Grow into ownership of sensing‑related architectures, interfaces, and performance as program needs evolve.
Multidisciplinary Engineering Execution
- Work across hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and test teams to ensure end‑to‑end system performance.
- Identify and resolve cross‑domain technical issues, particularly at integration and interface boundaries.
- Guide design decisions to support testability, reliability, manufacturability, and scalability.
Path to Sensing Ownership
- Rapidly develop understanding of sensor technologies, data acquisition, and system‑level sensing performance relevant to the program.
- Partner with subject‑matter experts to build depth in sensing systems and eventually assume broader sensing technical leadership.
- Translate sensing‑related behaviors and constraints into clear system requirements and integration strategies.
Program Execution & Technical Planning
- Partner closely with program management to support technical planning, milestone definition, and risk management.
- Provide clear technical feedback to schedules, resourcing, and build/test strategies.
- Track technical readiness and integration maturity across program phases.
Team Coordination & Mentorship
- Coordinate efforts across multiple engineering teams and disciplines in a matrixed environment.
- Mentor engineers in systems thinking and disciplined development practices.
- Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for engineering leadership and customers.
Testing & Validation
- Support definition of system‑level test and validation strategies, including integration and performance testing.
- Assist with root‑cause analysis of complex system issues and guide corrective actions.
- Ensure test results and field data feed back into design improvements.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems, or related field); Master’s preferred.
- 8-12+ years of demonstrated ability in complex system or product development.
- Proven track record to lead or coordinate multidisciplinary technical efforts.
- Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements, interfaces, and integration.
- Ability to learn new technical domains quickly and operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to align diverse technical teams.
- Able to travel up to 25% travel domestically.
- Must be able to work out of our office in Carlsbad, CA or Tempe, AZ.
- Able to come into the office 3 days a week; hybrid role.
WHAT WILL HELP YOU ON THE JOB:
- Prior experience working with sensor‑enabled or data‑driven systems, even if not as a specialist.
- Background in embedded systems, controls, data processing, or system integration.
- Experience operating in a Project Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Technical Lead role.
- Experience delivering products through full product lifecycle.
SALARY RANGE:
$141,500.00 - $224,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $176,000.00 - $264,000.00/ annually. Align your degree to the TN category
TN visa approval for Technical Sales Specialists depends on your employer classifying the role under a qualifying category. Confirm your degree field matches the job description before applying, since a mismatch is the most common denial trigger at the port of entry.
Request an offer letter with technical specifics
Your employer's offer letter must describe your duties in technical terms, not just sales targets. CBP officers review this document at entry, so generic language like 'support sales activities' is far weaker than 'apply engineering knowledge to pre-sales solution design.'
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Companies experienced with visa sponsorship understand the documentation requirements and are far less likely to withdraw offers over perceived complexity. Search Migrate Mate to find Technical Sales Specialist roles at employers with recent visa filings who have demonstrated familiarity with work visa processes.
Prepare credential evaluation documents in advance
If your degree is from a Canadian or Mexican institution, have your transcripts ready in English. CBP can request proof of degree equivalency on the spot, and lacking documentation at a port of entry means a same-day denial with no appeal option.
Understand the distinction for Mexican citizens
Mexican nationals cannot self-petition at a port of entry like Canadian citizens can. You must schedule a consular interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate, and your employer files the supporting documentation ahead of that appointment. Factor in consular wait times when negotiating your start date.
Clarify who prepares the TN support letter
TN visas for Technical Sales Specialists involve no government filings or agency certifications — the process runs directly between you, your employer, and the port of entry or consulate. Some hiring teams unfamiliar with TN may assume it follows the same pathway as other work visas and introduce unnecessary delays. Confirm early that the process simply requires a well-prepared employer support letter, so your hiring team knows exactly what to expect.
Technical Sales Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Sales Specialist role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
It depends on how the role is structured. TN visa eligibility for Technical Sales Specialists typically falls under the 'Scientific Technician/Technologist' or 'Engineer' USMCA category. The position must require and actively use a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field. Roles focused purely on account management without a technical component may not qualify, so the offer letter's job description language matters significantly.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Technical Sales Specialist roles?
TN has no annual cap and no lottery, which means Canadian citizens can begin working as soon as CBP approves their application at the port of entry. H-1B visa requires entering a randomized lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate. TN is role and treaty-specific, while H-1B covers a broader range of specialty occupations. For Canadian and Mexican Technical Sales Specialists with a qualifying degree, TN is almost always the faster path.
Can I use Migrate Mate to find Technical Sales Specialist jobs that sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN sponsorship. You can search for Technical Sales Specialist positions filtered by employers who have actively sponsored TN visas, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the process.
How long does TN visa sponsorship take for a Technical Sales Specialist position?
Canadian citizens applying at a port of entry typically receive a decision the same day. Mexican citizens must go through a U.S. consulate, and appointment wait times vary by location and season, ranging from a few weeks to several months. Neither route requires USCIS processing, so there is no standard government processing timeline in the way H-1B petitions have one.
What happens if my TN visa is denied at the border?
A denial at the port of entry means CBP determined your documentation was insufficient or the role did not meet the USMCA category requirements. You can reapply with corrected documentation, but there is no formal appeal process for port-of-entry decisions. Canadian citizens have the advantage of being able to reapply relatively quickly, while Mexican citizens must reschedule a consular appointment. A stronger offer letter addressing the denial reason is the most common fix.
