Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an User Experience Designer
Align your portfolio to specialty occupation standards
TN visa approval hinges on your role qualifying as a computer systems analyst position. Frame your portfolio around systems-level UX work, research methodologies, and technical specifications rather than visual design alone, which can raise questions at adjudication.
Target employers with established immigration infrastructure
Companies that regularly hire on H-1B visa or O-1 visas already have HR processes and legal counsel familiar with work authorization. UX roles at mid-to-large tech, healthcare, or financial services firms are more likely to have this infrastructure in place.
Request a TN support letter before accepting an offer
Before signing, confirm the employer will provide a signed TN support letter describing your role as a computer systems analyst. Vague job title language in the letter is a common reason Canadian professionals face secondary inspection at the port of entry.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for TN-sponsoring UX employers
Searching broadly for UX roles wastes time when many postings don't include visa support. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for User Experience Designer positions at employers open to TN sponsorship, narrowing your search to realistic opportunities.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
Mexican professionals whose UX credentials were issued outside the Canadian or U.S. system often need a credential evaluation from USCIS-recognized evaluators. Have this completed before your first interview so it doesn't delay an offer timeline.
Understand that Mexicans face an annual TN cap
Unlike Canadians who apply at ports of entry with no annual limit, Mexican nationals must apply through U.S. consulates and are subject to a 5,500 annual TN allocation. File early in the fiscal year and confirm your employer is prepared to file USCIS Form I-129 on your behalf.
User Experience Designer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a User Experience Designer role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, but the role must be structured and documented as a computer systems analyst position, the TN category most applicable to UX design work. Your job duties should emphasize user research, information architecture, and systems-level design rather than purely visual or graphic output. Employers need to reflect this framing in the TN support letter they provide.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for UX Designer roles?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be obtained at a Canadian port of entry in a single day. The H-1B requires a lottery with limited annual slots and a months-long petitioning process. For Canadian UX professionals with a qualifying degree and a sponsoring employer, TN is faster and more predictable than H-1B in most cases.
Where can I find UX Designer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa support. You can filter for User Experience Designer positions at employers open to TN sponsorship, which eliminates the guesswork of identifying which companies will actually support your visa status before you apply.
Can I switch UX employers while on a TN visa?
Yes, but you can't begin work with a new employer before your new TN status is approved. Canadian citizens can apply for a new TN at a port of entry with the new employer's support letter. Mexican nationals must file Form I-129 with USCIS for the new employer. Plan your transition timeline carefully to avoid any gap in authorized employment.
What documents does my employer need to sponsor my TN visa as a UX Designer?
Your employer needs to provide a signed support letter on company letterhead describing your position title as computer systems analyst, your specific UX duties, the duration of employment, and your compensation. You'll also need your degree certificate and transcripts. Canadian citizens present these at the port of entry, while Mexican nationals submit them as part of a USCIS I-129 petition.
