Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Design Manager
Align your credentials to USMCA categories
Your degree field must map to a recognized TN occupation category. A Bachelor of Design or Fine Arts in Industrial Design typically satisfies the requirement, but a general arts degree rarely does. Confirm the match before applying.
Target studios with existing immigration infrastructure
Design teams at large tech, automotive, and consumer goods companies process TN petitions routinely. Smaller boutique studios may be willing but unfamiliar with the filing mechanics, which slows the process significantly.
Ask employers for an offer letter before border entry
Canadian applicants present their TN documentation at a Class A port of entry, so you need a detailed employer offer letter describing your managerial design role before you travel. A vague letter causes delays on the spot.
Clarify management scope in your job description
Officers scrutinize Design Manager titles because management alone does not qualify under TN. Your offer letter and supporting documents must show the role requires applying professional design expertise, not purely supervising others.
Search for TN-ready roles using Migrate Mate
Finding employers experienced with visa sponsorship for design roles saves weeks of outreach. Migrate Mate surfaces Design Manager positions from companies with recent visa filings, so your search targets roles at employers who understand the sponsorship process. For TN status, remember that Canadian applicants present their employer support letter directly at the U.S. port of entry, while Mexican applicants apply through a U.S. consulate—no government filing or certification required.
Prepare a portfolio that documents specialty occupation work
At the port of entry or consulate, your portfolio reinforces that the role requires specialized design knowledge. Include project briefs, client deliverables, and evidence of degree-level expertise applied directly to the work.

Find Design Manager JobsDesign Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Design Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is structured. TN status requires that the position primarily involves applying professional design knowledge grounded in a relevant bachelor's degree, not purely managing staff. A title of Design Manager is acceptable, but your offer letter must clearly describe hands-on design expertise as central to the job, not incidental to it.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Design Manager positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can apply any time a qualifying offer is in hand. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery that runs once per year and accepts only a fraction of applicants. For Canadian and Mexican Design Managers with a qualifying degree, TN is a faster and more predictable path than waiting for H-1B selection.
Where can I find Design Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles under the TN visa. It filters Design Manager positions by employers with documented TN filing experience, so you spend less time cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the process and more time engaging with teams ready to move forward.
What documents do Canadian applicants need at the border for a Design Manager TN?
You need a detailed offer letter on company letterhead describing the Design Manager role, your duties, your start date, and your compensation. Bring your educational credentials confirming a relevant bachelor's degree, and ideally a portfolio or brief that demonstrates the design expertise the role requires. Canadian citizens are processed at the port of entry without a visa stamp.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN status for a Design Manager role, and how does the process differ?
Yes, Mexican citizens qualify for TN status but must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at the border. The consular process requires scheduling a visa interview and receiving a TN visa stamp before entering the U.S. to work. Mexican nationals are also subject to a separate TN allocation, so consulate appointment availability and processing timelines are the main variables to plan around.
