Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Senior UX Engineer
Frame your credentials around engineering duties
TN visa classification as an Engineer requires your degree and job duties to align with an engineering discipline. A portfolio heavy on visual design won't satisfy a CBP officer. Get your offer letter to specify front-end architecture, component systems, or accessibility engineering explicitly.
Verify your degree maps to an engineering field
CBP evaluates whether your bachelor's degree is in an engineering-related field, not just any STEM area. If your degree is in Human-Computer Interaction or Interaction Design, obtain a credential evaluation that draws the connection to software or computer engineering before your port of entry appointment.
Target employers with active design systems teams
Companies running large-scale design systems need engineers who own implementation, not just specs. These teams generate offer letters that naturally reference engineering scope, making your TN classification argument cleaner. Search for job postings that list TypeScript, accessibility APIs, or component library ownership as core requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to find roles with visa-sponsoring employers
Not every UX Engineering posting translates to a viable TN opportunity. Migrate Mate surfaces Senior UX Engineer roles from employers with recent visa filings and sponsorship experience, so you spend time on positions where the job scope and employer background are already aligned.
Ask hiring managers to separate design from engineering scope
Senior UX Engineer offers sometimes bundle research, design, and implementation under one title. Before signing, ask your recruiter to split the job duties section so engineering responsibilities are listed first and dominate the description. This protects your TN classification at renewal if duties are ever questioned.
Prepare for Mexican nationals' consular processing timeline
If you're a Mexican citizen, your employer files a TN petition before your consular appointment, adding weeks to the start date you can commit to. Align your notice period and target start date to account for National Visa Center scheduling, which can run four to eight weeks depending on consulate load.
Senior UX Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior UX Engineer role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the job duties are scoped. TN status uses the Engineer category, which requires your role to center on engineering work, such as building component libraries, implementing accessibility standards, or architecting front-end systems. Roles where design or research duties dominate the offer letter are harder to defend at a port of entry or consulate. The stronger your offer letter's emphasis on software or systems engineering, the cleaner the TN argument.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Senior UX Engineers?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start working as soon as CBP approves your application at the border. H-1B visa requires entering a random selection lottery each April, with work authorization starting October 1 at the earliest. For Senior UX Engineers with a qualifying engineering degree and a well-scoped offer letter, TN is a faster and more predictable path than waiting on H-1B selection.
What does the employer need to do to sponsor my TN visa?
For Canadian citizens, the employer prepares a detailed offer letter outlining your engineering duties, your degree requirement, and your start date. You present that letter at a U.S. port of entry along with your credentials. No petition is filed with USCIS. For Mexican citizens, the employer files a TN petition with USCIS before your consular appointment, which requires more lead time and coordination on the employer's side.
How do I find Senior UX Engineer jobs that will support a TN visa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters Senior UX Engineer openings by employers with recent visa filings, so you're not spending weeks applying to postings where the job scope or employer experience with work visa sponsorship makes TN classification unlikely. Searching by role and visa type gives you a shortlist of positions at companies experienced with visa sponsorship processes.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa if I get a better Senior UX Engineer offer?
Yes. TN status is employer-specific, so a new job requires a new TN application tied to the new employer's offer letter. Canadian citizens can process the new TN at a port of entry, sometimes on the same day. Mexican citizens need to go through consular processing again. You should not resign from your current role until the new TN is approved, since your work authorization ends when your current employment ends.
