Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:

Engineer IV - Transportation Project Management

• Perform a variety of engineering duties of a complex nature which may include any combination of:
  • Project management
  • Reviewing plans and specifications for highway, roadways and storm drains
  • Supervision of technical staff, staff engineers and field engineers
  • Track and assess project performance through budget and schedule updates
  • Related work as required
• Provide technical guidance and oversight for senior project managers during the project delivery process, including but not limited to:
  • Project initiation/scoping
  • Design procurement
  • Contract management roadway design
  • Environmental permitting
  • Public outreach
  • Public/private utility relocation
  • Construction procurement
  • Construction management
  • Project closeout and warranty monitoring
• Track and monitor project development process to provide mitigation efforts for schedule/budget impacts as well as update reporting for the Management Team
• Coordinate with state and federal transportation representatives for project delivery progress
• Provide technical support and guidance for project delivery process improvement and documentation
• Provide quality assurance to ensure consistent project documentation for project managers
• Coordinate project development and delivery with other City Departments and stakeholders
• Develop reports and presentations (oral and written) for executive level project updates
• Provide oversight, guidance, and approvals for design and construction contracts
• Develop and address annual performance evaluations and manage personnel issue

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and seven (7) years of progressive professional experience. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
