Underwriter Jobs in Phoenix: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a underwriter job in Phoenix?
Focus on Phoenix's strongest hiring pockets: property and casualty insurers clustered in Scottsdale and Tempe, mortgage lenders concentrated along the Camelback Corridor, and commercial lines shops in downtown Phoenix. Candidates with experience in homeowners, auto, or commercial real estate underwriting have an edge here given Arizona's active housing and construction markets. Holding an AU or CU designation strengthens your profile against a competitive local candidate pool.
Which companies hire underwriters in Phoenix?
Employers hiring underwriters in Phoenix right now include Stellantis, Chubb Insurance, and Travelers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Phoenix's underwriter market draws a mix of national carriers with large regional offices, regional community banks, and specialty mortgage lenders that support the metro's high volume of residential and commercial real estate activity.
Are there remote underwriter jobs in Phoenix?
Yes, though it depends on the line of business. Commercial and specialty lines underwriting tend to require more in-person collaboration, while personal lines, mortgage, and title underwriting are far more remote-compatible by nature. About 50% of underwriter openings tied to Phoenix are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the strongest remote options concentrated in mortgage and personal auto underwriting roles.
How can I get a underwriter job in Phoenix with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Phoenix is through an underwriter trainee or underwriting assistant role at one of the metro's large regional carriers or mortgage servicers in Tempe and Scottsdale. Many Phoenix-area insurers promote from claims examiner and customer service positions into entry underwriting roles. A bachelor's degree in finance, business, or risk management and familiarity with Phoenix's residential real estate market will sharpen your candidacy considerably.
Which industries hire the most underwriters in Phoenix?
Most underwriter openings in Phoenix sit in Insurance and Banking & Financial Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Phoenix's rapid population growth, booming residential construction, and concentration of regional bank headquarters drive sustained demand across insurance carriers, mortgage lenders, and specialty finance companies operating throughout the metro.
