UX Research Intern Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ux research intern in Illinois?
Most Illinois employers hire ux research interns from undergraduate or graduate programs in human-computer interaction, psychology, cognitive science, or design at universities like the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Northwestern, or DePaul. No state-issued license applies to this role. A strong portfolio demonstrating at least one end-to-end research project, including a research plan, participant recruitment, and a findings report, is what moves candidates past the resume screen at Illinois companies.
Which companies hire ux research interns in Illinois?
Illinois ux research intern roles are posted by Bold Insight, Mastercard, and Relativity and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's density of headquarters in fintech, insurance, and enterprise software means large internal UX teams with dedicated intern pipelines are more common here than in most other markets.
Which Illinois cities have the most ux research intern jobs?
Chicago, Illinois, and Libertyville have the most ux research intern openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because it hosts the corporate headquarters of major players in financial services, healthcare technology, and consumer goods, while smaller concentrations in Evanston and Schaumburg reflect anchor employers like Motorola Solutions and the research proximity of Northwestern University.
Are there remote ux research intern jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and they are relatively common compared to hands-on roles, since most ux research tasks, including moderated interviews, survey analysis, and synthesis sessions, can run fully online. About 100% of ux research intern openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well the research workflow translates to distributed tools. Moderated in-person usability lab sessions remain the most likely reason a role requires on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a ux research intern in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through a university cooperative education or internship program, since large Illinois employers like Allstate and Discover Financial Services run structured intern cohorts specifically designed for students with classroom exposure but no professional history. Adjacent roles such as marketing research assistant, product support analyst, or library user experience volunteer positions at Illinois public libraries also build directly relevant skills. A two-to-three project portfolio hosted online, even if built from academic or self-initiated work, is the single most persuasive credential you can hold.
Where can I find and apply to ux research intern jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to ux research intern jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings updated regularly. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your background and availability, and apply directly to the postings that fit.
