Which manufacturing companies sponsor visas in Alabama?
Major visa sponsors include Boeing (aerospace in Huntsville), Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai (automotive in Montgomery/Tuscaloosa), U.S. Steel and Nucor (steel production in Birmingham), and Airbus (aerospace in Mobile). These companies regularly file H-1B visa petitions for engineers, production managers, and specialized technicians. Defense contractors like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon also sponsor visas for aerospace roles.
How to find manufacturing visa sponsorship jobs in Alabama?
Use Migrate Mate to search manufacturing roles specifically filtered for Alabama visa sponsorship opportunities. Focus on major industrial hubs like Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, and Montgomery where aerospace, automotive, and steel companies concentrate. Check aerospace defense contractors, automotive manufacturers, and heavy industry companies that historically sponsor work visas for international talent in engineering and production management roles.
Which visa types are most common for manufacturing roles in Alabama?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering positions (mechanical, aerospace, industrial engineers), while L-1 visas are common for international manufacturers transferring employees to Alabama operations. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican engineers. Some companies use O-1 visas for specialized aerospace or automotive engineers with extraordinary expertise in advanced manufacturing technologies.
Which cities in Alabama have the most manufacturing sponsorship jobs?
Huntsville leads with aerospace and defense manufacturing (Boeing, Raytheon), followed by Birmingham for steel and heavy industry. Montgomery and Tuscaloosa offer automotive opportunities with Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz operations. Mobile provides aerospace manufacturing roles with Airbus. These four metro areas account for most manufacturing visa sponsorship activity statewide.
Are prevailing wages competitive for manufacturing roles in Alabama?
Alabama's prevailing wages for manufacturing engineering roles are generally lower than coastal states but competitive regionally. Aerospace engineers in Huntsville command higher wages due to defense contractor demand. Automotive engineers in Montgomery/Tuscaloosa see competitive packages from international manufacturers. The lower cost of living helps offset wage differences compared to traditional manufacturing centers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored manufacturing jobs in Alabama?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
