Responsibilities and Expectations:
We are looking for a talented Switchgear Repair Technician to troubleshoot, test and inspect complex electrical switchgear systems and operate on all types of test equipment. As an IPS Switchgear Repair Technician you will demonstrate strong repair skills and commitment for providing an Unmatched Customer Experience.
- Inspect, test and maintain complex low, medium and high voltage electrical power distribution equipment, such as automatic transfer switches, circuit breakers, contactors, control systems, relays, and transformers
- Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering personnel to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Test equipment to detect malfunctioning, broken parts, and determine resistance, using various testing equipment
- Prepare reports, making repair/replacement recommendations, and explain inspection results
- Perform work in compliance with operating policies and procedures
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Knowledge on how to operate and interpret readings from an insulation resistance test, ratio, primary and secondary injection, hi-pot, etc. preferred
- NETA Certification preferred
- A minimum of six years of low and medium voltage switchgear testing and repair preferred
- Experience with low and medium voltage pad mount transformers preferred
- Able to read and interpret drawings/diagrams and specifications (electrical, mechanical and connection)
- Strong oral and written communication and analytical skills
- Able to work with minimal direction or supervision
- Have experience with health and safety programs including lock out tag out
- Ability to travel locally and overnight
- Available and willing to work flexible hours, overtime and weekends as required, willingness to be on call
