Tips for Finding H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in Alaska
Target Anchorage-based employers first
Anchorage hosts the largest concentration of Alaska's H-1B sponsors, including major hospital systems, engineering firms, and oil company regional offices. Starting your search there gives you the most options before expanding to Fairbanks or Juneau.
Focus on industries with consistent sponsorship history
Healthcare, petroleum engineering, fisheries science, and civil engineering have the strongest H-1B sponsorship track records in Alaska. Targeting these fields increases your chances of finding employers already familiar with the petition process.
Use DOL disclosure data to identify active sponsors
The Department of Labor's OFLC disclosure database lists every Labor Condition Application filed in Alaska by employer name and job title. Searching this data lets you identify which specific companies have sponsored H-1B workers in your field.
Search for roles filtered by sponsorship willingness
Many Alaska employers don't advertise sponsorship availability upfront. Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, so you can browse H-1B-eligible roles in Alaska without manually screening hundreds of postings.
Account for Alaska's geographic employment structure
Some of Alaska's largest employers operate in remote sites, including oil fields on the North Slope and fishing operations in coastal communities. Many sponsor H-1B workers from hub offices in Anchorage, so check corporate headquarters locations, not just work sites.
Engage professional associations active in Alaska's specialty sectors
Organizations like the Alaska Oil and Gas Association and Alaska State Medical Association connect professionals with employers who regularly hire internationally. Membership or attendance at industry events can surface sponsoring employers not actively posting public job listings.

Which industries in Alaska sponsor the most H-1B visas?
Healthcare is the leading H-1B visa sponsoring sector in Alaska, driven by persistent physician and specialist shortages across the state. Oil and gas extraction, civil and environmental engineering, and fisheries science also generate consistent sponsorship activity. Research institutions affiliated with the University of Alaska system sponsor H-1B workers in scientific and academic roles.
Which cities in Alaska have the most H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Anchorage accounts for the majority of Alaska's H-1B petitions, given its concentration of hospitals, corporate offices, and engineering firms. Fairbanks sees sponsorship activity through the University of Alaska Fairbanks and nearby military-adjacent research operations. Juneau, as the state capital, sponsors H-1B workers in government-adjacent professional and technical roles.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Alaska?
Roles that qualify require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific specialty field directly related to the job. In Alaska, this commonly includes physicians, surgeons, petroleum engineers, civil engineers, environmental scientists, software developers, and university researchers. General labor, trades, and management roles without a required degree in a specific discipline typically do not qualify.
How do I find H-1B sponsorship jobs in Alaska?
Start with the DOL's OFLC disclosure database to identify Alaska employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications in your field. Migrate Mate lists H-1B sponsorship jobs filtered by state, so you can browse verified Alaska opportunities without sorting through postings that don't offer sponsorship. Reaching out directly to Anchorage-based employers in healthcare or engineering with a clear sponsorship inquiry can also be effective.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs in Alaska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
