INTRODUCTION
The VP, Consumer Strategist is a strategic, revenue focused role dedicated to growing and advancing Acxiom's presence inside Walmart’s brands and across the consumer brands that sell through Walmart's ecosystem. Based in Bentonville, this individual supports the Client Partner on the account, translating Walmart's business priorities and the needs of its supplier partners into Acxiom solution strategies that drive new revenue and deepen the relationship over time.
This role blends solution selling with account strategy. The Consumer Strategist supports the Client Partner by identifying where Acxiom's data, identity, and partner capabilities can solve real problems for Walmart and the consumer brands that depend on its ecosystem, then builds the business case, shapes the pitch, and helps advance opportunities toward closed revenue in partnership with the Client Partner. Success in this role means being seen by Walmart and its brand partners as a trusted strategic resource, not just a vendor contact.
This is a senior leadership role, but it is not a hands-off one. The role is an independent contributor that leans and depends strongly on partnership with the client leaders and other internal Acxiom teams. The Consumer Strategist is expected to get close to the details, building a real, working understanding of both Acxiom's and Walmart's data and technology ecosystems over time. That depth is what allows this person to manage and influence the solution build alongside technical and delivery teams, not just hand off a deal and hope it gets built well. Relationship remains the top priority in this role, and the strongest version of that relationship is built on credibility that comes from genuinely understanding how the technology works.
The Consumer Strategist acts as the connective tissue between Walmart's needs, the consumer brands that sell through Walmart, and Acxiom's internal strategic, product, and delivery teams, supporting the Client Partner by making sure every opportunity is grounded in a clear path to value for the client and measurable growth for Acxiom.
LOCATION: Bentonville, Arkansas (on site at Walmart’s headquarters)
COMPETENCIES
- Solution Selling: Support the Client Partner in identifying, shaping, and advancing revenue opportunities by matching Acxiom's data, identity, and partner capabilities to real business problems at Walmart and its consumer brand partners.
- Account Strategy: Contribute to the Client Partner's long term strategic roadmap for the Walmart account, prioritizing where Acxiom can create the most value and the strongest path to revenue.
- Client Relationship Building: Develop trusted, senior level relationships with Walmart and with the consumer brands that sell through its ecosystem, serving as a go to strategic resource rather than a transactional contact while reinforcing the Client Partner as the owner of the overall account relationship. This is the top priority of the role.
- Technical Depth and Hands On Solutioning: Build a genuine, working understanding of Acxiom's and Walmart's data and technology ecosystems, and use that understanding to collaborate directly with technical and delivery teams, manage the solution build, and influence how it comes together.
- Cross Functional Collaboration: Partner with Acxiom Client Partner, product, and delivery teams to shape proposals, pricing, and delivery models that can be executed with confidence.
- Commerce Strategy: Understand how retailers, marketplaces, and consumer brands use commerce signals, shopper behavior, and transaction data to drive growth across acquisition, retention, loyalty, and omnichannel engagement.
- Retail Media Expertise: Bring fluency in retail media networks, closed loop measurement, audience activation, supplier funded media, and the ways brands use retailer platforms to connect media investment to shopper outcomes.
- Data Monetization: Identify opportunities to turn first party data, identity assets, analytics, and partner data collaborations into commercially viable solutions that create value for Walmart, its brand partners, and Acxiom.
- Category and Market Insight: Stay current on Walmart's strategic priorities, the retail media landscape, and the broader consumer and retail industry to keep Acxiom's approach relevant and differentiated.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Client Partner by building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders at Walmart and with consumer brands that sell through Walmart, functioning as a trusted advisor to their business goals.
- Help the Client Partner identify and prioritize revenue opportunities across the Walmart account, including both direct Walmart initiatives and opportunities with brands selling through its ecosystem.
- Develop tailored solution strategies that connect Acxiom's capabilities to Walmart's and its brand partners' most pressing business needs.
- Build real fluency in Acxiom's and Walmart's underlying data and technology ecosystems, learning both in depth rather than staying at a surface level understanding.
- Work hands on with technical, product, and delivery teams to manage and influence how solutions are actually built, making sure what gets sold can be delivered well.
- Partner with Acxiom sales, product, and delivery teams to build proposals, pricing, and delivery models that can be executed with confidence once a deal closes.
- Build the business case and return on investment narrative that supports each pitch, working alongside Strategic Advancement and other internal partners as needed.
- Support client engagements such as business reviews, deal pursuits, and other strategic forums for the account in partnership with the Client Partner.
- Provide client driven feedback to inform Acxiom's product and solution roadmap.
- Deliver high impact presentations and narratives that clearly communicate Acxiom's differentiators and value to Walmart and its brand partners.
WHAT WILL SET YOU APART
- Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of experience in strategic accounts, solution selling, or client strategy, ideally within retail, consumer packaged goods, or adjacent data and martech industries.
- Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent work experience.
- A genuine technical background, such as experience with data platforms, identity, analytics, or activation technology, with the ability to go deep with engineering and delivery teams. Relationship is the top priority in this role, but it has to be built on real technical credibility.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Bentonville, Arkansas area, with the ability to work on site with the Walmart account team as needed.
- Demonstrated success translating client needs into scalable, revenue generating solutions, and staying involved enough to help manage and influence how those solutions get built.
- Experience navigating large, matrixed retail organizations and the ecosystem of brands and partners that surround them.
- Familiarity with Walmart's retail media and data ecosystem, such as Walmart Connect, Luminate, and Walmart DSP, is a plus though not required. This person will be expected to learn Walmart's specific ecosystem in depth on the job.
- Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to build and deliver compelling client facing narratives around value and return on investment.
- Comfortable operating independently and owning the strategic workstreams they lead in support of the Client Partner's overall account ownership, while also willing to roll up sleeves on the technical and implementation details when needed.
- Strategic thinker with a bias toward action, able to move between big picture account strategy and the tactical details of a specific pitch or build.
- Strong critical thinking, financial acumen, and writing skills.
- Ability to travel as needed to support client engagements and internal planning.
