About the Role We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Clinical Lab Technician to join our Mass Spectrometry Department in a part-time capacity. The successful candidate will primarily support high-throughput sample preparation, extraction, and instrument loading using mass spectrometry techniques (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and ICP-MS), ensuring accurate, high-quality, and timely results for diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Preparation & Extraction: Prepare biological specimens (serum, plasma, whole blood) and environmental samples for analysis using solid-phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction, and related sample clean-up techniques.
- Instrument Operation & Support: Load samples, initiate analytical runs, and assist in routine operation, maintenance, and frontline troubleshooting of LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and ICP-MS systems and auxiliary lab hardware.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Perform and document daily calibrations, quality control (QC) checks, and preventative maintenance logs in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and GLP guidelines.
- LIMS & Documentation: Track specimens, log instrument metrics, and document test findings accurately within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Safety & Waste Management: Handle, store, and dispose of organic solvents, reagents, and biohazardous materials strictly following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory chemical hygiene protocols.
- Workflow Collaboration: Work closely with Clinical Lab Scientists (CLS) and lab leadership to maintain turnaround times, workflow continuity, and strict data integrity.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience: 1+ years of wet-lab or clinical laboratory experience; hands-on familiarity with LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, or bioanalytical sample preparation is strongly preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Prior experience operating under CLIA, CAP, or GLP standards is preferred.
- Software: Experience utilizing LIMS for sample tracking and data logging; familiarity with analytical software (e.g., MassHunter, MassLynx, Xcalibur) is a plus.
- Core Skills: Precise micropipetting, meticulous documentation practices, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
- Shift Commitment: Must be reliably available to work on-site Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00 PM – 7:30 PM.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Standard clinical and analytical laboratory setting with direct exposure to biological samples, organic solvents, and high-complexity instrumentation.
