About Wing:
Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing's fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on two continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. Wing is a part of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and our mission is to create the preferred means of delivery for the planet. If you're ready to do the greatest work of your life, come join us.
About the Role:
Wing is looking for a Senior Staff Power Systems Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team. This role will be based in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will be a cornerstone of our engineering team, driving the power architecture and technical strategy for our fleet of unmanned, autonomous delivery vehicles and support systems. In this role, you will have ultimate ownership of the end-to-end product lifecycle—from pioneering new power concepts to ensuring successful high-volume mass production. You will leverage your deep hardware expertise and holistic view of system architecture to make critical trade-offs across hardware, firmware, and software in complex embedded devices. As a technical leader, you will solve our most ambiguous power delivery challenges and set the standard for engineering excellence across the organization.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the system architecture definition for aircraft power systems, including motor inverters/ESCs, DC/DC converters, and battery chargers, optimizing for weight, efficiency, and thermal performance.
- Lead the system architecture definition for automated ground charging infrastructure, ensuring high reliability, grid compatibility, and safe, autonomous operation.
- Define the battery strategy for the company, encompassing battery cell selection, advanced BMS architecture, and battery pack design philosophy for the aircraft.
- Identify and validate key enabling technologies through research and rapid prototyping to increase flight endurance and reduce infrastructure costs.
- Act as the ultimate technical authority to troubleshoot and resolve complex, systemic power issues in the drone and ground systems.
- Establish testing strategies and standards for functional verification, fault tolerance, and long-term reliability for both flight and ground hardware.
- Partner with mechanical, embedded software, and GNC teams to optimize system-level performance and ensure seamless integration of power systems.
- Guide power systems through rigorous safety audits and regulatory certification processes for both aviation and ground electrical standards.
What You'll Need:
- 15+ years of experience architecting and delivering complex power electronics products in a high-volume production environment, with a proven track record of driving products from concept through mass production.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a history of technical leadership equivalent to a Principal level.
- Deep technical expertise in the architecture and control of high-density power electronics (e.g., motor inverters, AC/DC and DC/DC converters) and advanced motor control techniques like FOC and sensorless control.
- Proven track record of leading the evaluation, design, and integration of advanced energy storage systems, battery packs, and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
- Expertise in defining system-level electrical architectures and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, I2C) for complex autonomous systems.
- Ability to define overall verification strategies and lead complex debugging efforts for high-power systems, leveraging advanced lab equipment and data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience using data analysis to drive architectural decisions and optimize system performance.
- Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to influence executive leadership, mentor senior engineers, and align cross-functional teams around a technical vision.

Which aerospace & defense companies in California sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Major prime contractors with significant California footprints, including Northrop Grumman, Raytheon Technologies, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and L3Harris, have documented histories of sponsoring specialty occupation workers. Smaller defense electronics and satellite firms in the Los Angeles basin and San Diego corridor also file Labor Condition Applications for qualifying roles, though sponsorship decisions vary by position, clearance requirements, and current headcount needs.
Which California cities have the most aerospace & defense H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship jobs?
Greater Los Angeles, including El Segundo, Redondo Beach, and Palmdale, concentrates the highest density of aerospace and defense employers due to its long-standing role in aircraft and space systems manufacturing. San Diego is a hub for defense electronics, naval systems, and cybersecurity contractors. The Sacramento region hosts defense and government technology firms, while the Santa Barbara and Ventura County corridors support satellite and remote sensing companies.
What types of aerospace & defense roles typically qualify for H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Roles that consistently meet the specialty occupation standard include systems engineers, avionics engineers, aerospace engineers, electrical engineers, software developers working on embedded or mission-critical systems, mechanical engineers, and systems integration specialists. Positions requiring a directly related bachelor's degree or higher are the clearest candidates. Roles in quality assurance, test engineering, radar systems, and propulsion also frequently qualify, provided the job description specifies degree-level technical requirements.
How do I find aerospace & defense H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and state, so you can search for H-1B1 visa Singapore sponsorship roles in California's aerospace and defense sector without manually screening hundreds of postings. The platform surfaces employers with verified sponsorship activity in this category, which is particularly useful given that H-1B visa1 Singapore filings are less widely advertised than standard H-1B roles. Starting your search on Migrate Mate saves significant research time.
Are there California-specific or aerospace industry considerations that affect H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Security clearance requirements add a layer of complexity in California's defense sector. Many roles at prime contractors require U.S. citizenship for clearance eligibility, which limits H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship to unclassified or clearance-exempt positions. California's strong labor protections also mean employers must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements through a certified Labor Condition Application before sponsoring any H-1B1 worker. Candidates should clarify clearance requirements early in the application process to avoid late-stage disqualification.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 Singapore aerospace & defense jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
