About The Team
The Core Models team shapes how our models interact with people. We view the model as the product itself, aiming for intuitive experiences that exceed user expectations and feel like magic.
About The Role
As a Model Designer, you’ll have an outsized impact on how our models interact and resonate with users. You’ll strike a delicate balance between maximizing the model’s capabilities, reading in between the lines in user queries to understand how best to help, and upholding user trust. We’re looking for people who are passionate about the intersection of design, technology, and user experience — and are up for the challenge of defining new human-AI interaction paradigms. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you’ll join a small team in evolving and expanding the model design function. You will:
- Collaborate closely with researchers to understand, predict, and design model behavior.
- Partner with product managers and designers across the company to ensure a cohesive voice and approach.
- Proactively identify ways to improve our models based on product sense, user feedback, quantitative insights, and the research roadmap.
- Come up with creative strategies for collecting high-quality data.
- Do whatever needs to be done to make our models better.
You Might Thrive In This Role If You
- Possess exceptional taste, creativity, and writing skills, allowing you to craft responses that delight users.
- Don’t mind ambiguity — you’re happy to throw yourself into a new, unfamiliar environment, build relationships, define a problem, and make progress.
- Love experimentation, and are willing to test and reject new ideas when the results don’t pan out.
- Exhibit high levels of empathy and self-awareness required to serve everyone in the world.
- Enjoy tackling profound and often philosophical questions while always driving towards clarity.
- Demonstrate technical intuition to learn how changes in data can affect overall model behavior.

Which science and research companies sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas in California?
California-based employers with documented H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship activity in science and research include Genentech, Illumina, Applied Materials, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and various UC system research divisions. National laboratories such as Lawrence Berkeley and SLAC also employ international researchers under specialty occupation visas. Sponsorship patterns vary by company size, research focus, and hiring cycle, so reviewing Labor Condition Application filing history for each employer provides the clearest picture.
Which cities in California have the most science and research H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area lead for biotech, life sciences, and materials research, with major employer campuses concentrated in South San Francisco, Foster City, and Santa Clara. San Diego is California's second major hub, particularly for genomics, drug discovery, and biopharma research. Los Angeles supports aerospace and environmental science roles, while Sacramento and Davis host agricultural and environmental research positions tied to UC Davis and state agencies.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Roles that consistently qualify include research scientist, computational biologist, biochemist, materials scientist, environmental scientist, clinical research associate, and biostatistician. Each position must require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field as a minimum entry requirement, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. O*NET occupation profiles are a useful reference for confirming that a given role carries the requisite theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge.
How do I find science and research H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters California science and research roles specifically by H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship history, drawing on DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which employers have filed for this visa category. This removes guesswork from the search and focuses your applications on companies with an established track record. You can filter further by city, role type, and employer size to match your research background and career stage.
Are there any California-specific considerations for H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship in science and research?
California's prevailing wage requirements under state labor law can interact with federal LCA wage obligations, meaning employers must meet whichever standard is higher for a given occupation and location. The OFLC Wage Search tool provides the federal prevailing wage floor by occupation code and metropolitan area. California also has strict worker protections that affect employment agreements and lab IP clauses, so research professionals should review offer terms carefully before signing, ideally with qualified legal counsel.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 Singapore science & research jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
