Attributes We Value
We hire successful builders with founder-like energy who want real impact, accelerated learning, and true ownership. You bring strong role-related expertise and sharp thinking, and you’re motivated by our mission and operating principles. You move fast with good judgment, dig deep with curiosity, and make decisions from first principles, balancing speed and rigor.
You're humble and collaborative; turn zero-to-one ideas into real products, and you “get stuff done” end-to-end. You use AI to work smarter and solve problems faster. Here, you’ll tackle complex, high-visibility problems with exceptional teammates and grow your career as we build the future of global banking. If that sounds like you, let’s build what’s next.
About the team
Legal & Licensing at Airwallex sits at the heart of the decisions that shape how Airwallex grows. This team backs the visionary builders transforming Airwallex into a generational financial company, sharing the journey of product development and sales alongside our business partners. You’ll help shape a global licensing footprint most fintechs wish they had, while making sure our brand and data architecture stay best-in-class for customers entering the agentic economy and ready for its regulatory demands. The hard part is helping the business move fast on product, revenue, and new-market expansion without compromising the regulatory discipline that protects the moat.
It’s a team for lawyers, strategists, and licensing specialists with commercial instincts, sharp judgment, and an obsession with customer-first outcomes. If you want to guide executive decisions and help build the licensing, structure, and judgment behind what comes next, this is where legal has real leverage.
As Counsel in Product Legal, you will be a valuable member of the global Product Legal team and will help our rapidly growing business navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. Although you will be based in the US, you will have multi-regional responsibility by supporting our product and partnership strategy and advising on complex technology transactions in EMEA and APAC. You will build strong business relationships with business teams and understand the business environment. When you don’t know the answer, you’ll know how to obtain the answer and explain it to business partners. This dynamic role is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and solving complex issues for our internal and external partners, is detail oriented, willing to take on challenges and changes, obsessively curious and intellectually honest, thrives on taking actions and delivering impactful results, and aims to inspire and be inspired. Experience in fintech or payments is welcomed, as is a demonstrated passion for mastering something new. Relevant subject-matter expertise may include knowledge of payments, card networks, and banking.
This hybrid role is based in San Francisco or New York City.
Responsibilities:
- Provide advice and support to the product team, local legal teams, support functions, Airwallex management, and the Legal, Risk, and Compliance Department.

- Manage external counsel and consultants on regulatory matters.
- Support negotiations on complex and novel agreements with our strategic partners.
- Support government relations outreach to legislators and regulatory agencies.

Which companies sponsor visas for product owners in California?
California's largest tech employers are among the most active visa sponsors for product owner roles. Companies like Google, Apple, Meta, Salesforce, Adobe, Intuit, and Airbnb have consistent track records of filing H-1B visa petitions for product management positions. Enterprise software firms and well-funded startups in the Bay Area and Los Angeles also sponsor regularly, particularly for senior and specialized product owner roles.
Which visa types are most common for product owner roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for product owners in California, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, or business. Candidates with a master's degree may benefit from the advanced degree exemption in the H-1B lottery. Australian citizens may also pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is widely used by product professionals at California tech companies.
Which cities in California have the most product owner sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and San Jose account for the largest share of sponsored product owner roles in California, driven by the Bay Area's concentration of major tech headquarters and high-growth startups. Los Angeles has grown significantly as a tech hub, particularly in fintech, media tech, and e-commerce. San Diego has a notable presence in biotech and defense technology, where product owner roles with sponsorship also appear regularly.
How to find product owner visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters product owner roles in California by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from sorting through listings that won't support work authorization. The platform focuses on employers with active sponsorship histories, which is particularly useful in California where the volume of postings makes it otherwise difficult to identify genuine sponsorship opportunities quickly.
Are there any California-specific considerations for product owners seeking visa sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements apply to H-1B filings and are typically set at competitive levels given the state's high cost of living, especially in the Bay Area. Product owner roles in California often require demonstrable technical depth alongside product experience, which strengthens a specialty occupation determination. University programs at UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UCLA also feed talent pipelines into California tech companies that are experienced H-1B sponsors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product owner jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
