INTRODUCTION
At Physicians Mutual, technology and business work together to deliver solutions that improve experiences for our customers and employees. We're looking for a collaborative, strategic Product Owner who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable deliverables and helping Agile teams deliver high-quality solutions.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of business and technology. You'll work closely with business partners, and technical teams to align priorities, manage backlogs and ensure the team delivers solutions that support organizational goals. You'll serve as the voice of the customer for your assigned teams, helping them understand business priorities and requirements, while also helping stakeholders understand technical solutions.
If you're an excellent communicator who enjoys solving complex business problems and guiding Agile delivery, we'd love to hear from you.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and prioritize the backlogs for assigned teams.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand business goals, gather requirements and define features and user stories.
- Write clear acceptance criteria that enable successful development and testing.
- Work with development and architecture teams to refine, estimate and prioritize work.
- Serve as the primary decision-maker for story acceptance, ensuring both functional and nonfunctional requirements are met.
- Facilitate backlog refinement sessions and support quarterly and iteration planning.
- Provide ongoing clarification to developers throughout the development lifecycle.
- Balance business priorities, technical considerations and delivery timelines when making prioritization decisions.
- Coordinate dependencies across teams and communicate risks, roadblocks and changing priorities.
- Participate in iteration reviews, demonstrations and retrospectives while promoting continuous improvement.
- Build strong relationships across business and technology teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
- Help translate technical concepts into clear business language for stakeholders, particularly within data-focused initiatives.
What Makes You Successful
You enjoy collaborating with diverse teams and are comfortable serving as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams. You're naturally curious, organized and proactive, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities while maintaining a focus on delivering customer value.
Successful candidates demonstrate:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to influence without direct authority.
- Confidence facilitating discussions with both business and technical audiences.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced Agile environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst or in a similar business technology role.
- Experience working within an Agile software development environment.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Strong understanding of backlog management and Agile planning practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in insurance, financial services or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience supporting data-focused products or applications.
- Experience using Rally or similar Agile project management tools.
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), SAFe, CBAP or similar certifications.

Which companies sponsor visas for product owners in Nebraska?
Omaha-based employers with documented H-1B sponsorship history for product and technology roles include Union Pacific, Mutual of Omaha, Nelnet, West Corporation, and First National Bank. Insurance and financial technology firms in the Omaha metro account for a significant share of product owner sponsorships in the state. Lincoln employers including the University of Nebraska system also sponsor product-focused roles periodically.
Which visa types are most common for product owner roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa for product owner roles in Nebraska, as the position typically requires a bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related field and qualifies as a specialty occupation. L-1B visas are used when candidates transfer within a multinational company. Some candidates on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT also work in product owner roles while pursuing H-1B sponsorship from their employer.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most product owner sponsorship jobs?
Omaha is by far the strongest market for product owner sponsorship jobs in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and logistics technology companies. Lincoln is a secondary market with opportunities tied to the University of Nebraska, state government technology initiatives, and a growing startup community. Outside these two cities, product owner sponsorship opportunities are limited.
How to find product owner visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and you can filter directly for product owner roles in Nebraska. This is more efficient than broad job searches because listings are screened for sponsorship eligibility. Focus on Omaha-area employers in financial services, insurance, and logistics technology, as these industries generate the most consistent product owner sponsorship activity in the state.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for product owners seeking visa sponsorship?
Nebraska's cost of living is lower than most coastal tech markets, which affects prevailing wage calculations under the H-1B Labor Condition Application process. Employers must pay at least the prevailing wage for the Omaha or Lincoln metropolitan areas as determined by the Department of Labor. University of Nebraska graduates, particularly from computer science and business programs, represent a pipeline that some Nebraska employers are already familiar with for sponsoring international talent.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product owner jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
