Which companies sponsor visas for program specialists in California?
Large employers with established immigration programs are the most consistent sponsors. In California, these include University of California campuses, California State University system, Kaiser Permanente, Salesforce, Google, and various state and county government agencies. Nonprofits and research institutions also sponsor program specialists, particularly for roles tied to grant-funded initiatives or federally supported programs.
Which visa types are most common for program specialist roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for program specialist roles in California, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Employers in the UC and CSU systems frequently use H-1B and sometimes J-1 visas. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying specialty occupations. O-1 visas are an option for individuals with demonstrated extraordinary achievement.
Which cities in California have the most program specialist sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area leads in volume, driven by tech companies and major universities. Los Angeles follows closely, with a high concentration of healthcare systems, nonprofits, and entertainment-adjacent program roles. Sacramento is significant for state government and public health program positions. San Diego has a strong presence in biotech, defense, and research institutions that regularly hire program specialists internationally.
How to find program specialist visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search for program specialist roles in California without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform covers employers across tech, healthcare, education, and government sectors in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Diego, making it easier to target organizations with active sponsorship histories.
Are there any California-specific considerations for program specialists seeking visa sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements apply to H-1B positions, meaning employers must meet Department of Labor wage standards for the specific occupation and region. Program specialist roles tied to UC or CSU campuses often qualify as cap-exempt H-1B positions, which can be filed year-round without entering the annual lottery. California's strong university pipeline also means many sponsored roles are filled through institutional affiliations rather than open postings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program specialist jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
