Which companies sponsor visas for program specialists in Illinois?
In Illinois, visa sponsorship for program specialists is most common at large healthcare organizations like Northwestern Medicine and Advocate Health, universities including the University of Illinois and University of Chicago, and federal contractors based in the Chicago metro area. Nonprofits with federal grant funding also sponsor regularly, particularly for program coordination roles in public health, education, and social services.
Which visa types are most common for program specialist roles in Illinois?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for program specialists in Illinois, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some university and research-affiliated employers also sponsor J-1 visa exchange visitor visas. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN visa status if the role aligns with an eligible TN occupation category.
Which cities in Illinois have the most program specialist sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of program specialist sponsorship activity in Illinois, driven by its concentration of hospitals, universities, nonprofits, and corporate headquarters. Evanston sees demand through Northwestern University. Springfield has a smaller but steady presence through state government agencies and associated contractors. Suburban Cook County and the broader Chicago metro area should also be included in any job search.
How to find program specialist visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters program specialist jobs specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sorting through listings that don't apply to you. For Illinois, the platform surfaces roles across Chicago-area healthcare systems, university employers, and nonprofits that have a track record of H-1B sponsorship. Setting up role and location filters for program specialist positions in Illinois will show you the most relevant active openings.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for program specialist visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B workers for program specialist roles must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Chicago or Springfield metropolitan area, which are set based on job zone and local wage data. Illinois's strong university system, including the University of Illinois campuses, creates a notable pipeline of international graduates already in the state who may pursue sponsorship with local employers after completing OPT.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program specialist jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
