General Description of the Position

The Child Development Associate (CDA®) Coach provides individualized coaching, mentoring, and professional support to early childhood professionals participating in the Early Childhood Innovation Center's (ECIC) Child Development Associate (CDA®) credentialing initiatives. Working collaboratively with the CDA® Coordinator, CDA® Navigators, Operations staff, and other ECIC team members, the CDA® Coach supports scholars through the Child Development Associate® credentialing process utilizing practice-based coaching, adult learning principles, and evidence-based practices.

The CDA® Coach is responsible for supporting scholars participating in the iCDA model by providing guidance throughout the credentialing process, including supporting participants as they independently complete the required 120 clock hours through Early Education Pathways (EEP), successfully complete the Council for Professional Recognition's portfolio requirements, and utilize the Council's e-Portfolio system. Additionally, the coach will facilitate portfolio development cohorts, provide individualized coaching sessions, monitor scholar progress, identify barriers to completion, support continuous quality improvement, and promote successful attainment of the Child Development Associate® Credential while ensuring a high level of customer service and participant engagement.

This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement in accordance with Delaware State University policies and operational needs. It is a primarily field-based position requiring frequent travel throughout the State of Delaware to provide on-site coaching, facilitate professional learning experiences, conduct classroom observation visits, and support ECIC initiatives. Coaches will routinely travel to early childhood programs, community locations, and partner organizations while completing administrative responsibilities remotely. Regular attendance at the ECIC office is required for staff meetings, training, planning sessions, and other organizational activities as assigned. State of Delaware FLEET vehicles are available for approved business travel in accordance with University and State policies.

Essential Functions

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

• Provide individualized practice-based coaching, mentoring, and professional guidance to scholars participating in the ECIC's CDA® initiatives.
• Support scholars participating in the iCDA model by providing guidance throughout the Child Development Associate® credentialing process, including successful completion of the required 120 clock hours through Early Education Pathways (EEP) and preparation for CDA® credential attainment.
• Coach scholars through successful completion of the Council for Professional Recognition's CDA® portfolio requirements, use of the Council's e-Portfolio system, and preparation for the CDA® exam and verification visit.
• Facilitate portfolio preparation and portfolio development cohorts utilizing practice-based coaching and adult learning principles.
• Conduct individual and group coaching sessions utilizing practice-based coaching strategies and tools, including on-site, off-site, face-to-face, virtual, and online professional learning experiences to support participant success, credential attainment, and individual professional growth.
• Implement coaching strategies and individualized action plans that support scholar growth, continuous quality improvement, successful completion of the CDA® credentialing process, and achievement of established program goals.
• Monitor scholar progress, identify barriers to completion, provide appropriate interventions, and develop strategies to support participant persistence and success.
• Maintain regular communication with scholars and provide timely follow-up regarding coaching sessions, portfolio progress, and credentialing milestones.
• Collaborate with the CDA® Coordinator, CDA® Navigators, Operations staff, and other ECIC personnel to coordinate participant support, referrals, and ensure continuity of services.
• Document coaching activities, scholar progress, participant interactions, and required program information within ECIC tracking systems, including Monday.com, Schoology, and other designated operational platforms, ensuring accurate, timely, and complete participant documentation, program tracking, and operational reporting.
• Utilize technology platforms including Early Education Pathways (EEP), the Council's e-Portfolio system, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other ECIC systems to support coaching, participant engagement, and professional learning.
• Provide exceptional customer service while fostering positive, strengths-based relationships with scholars, community partners, and ECIC stakeholders.
• Maintain confidentiality of participant information and ensure compliance with the ECIC, University, Council for Professional Recognition, and funding requirements.
• Collaborate with ECIC leadership to identify opportunities for continuous improvement of coaching practices and participant outcomes.
• Travel throughout the State of Delaware to provide coaching, facilitate professional learning experiences, conduct site visits, classroom observations, and support statewide implementation of ECIC's Child Development Associate® initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of Child Development Associate (CDA®) credentialing requirements and the Council for Professional Recognition.
• Knowledge of practice-based coaching, relationship-based coaching, mentoring, coaching strategies, and adult learning principles.
• Strong understanding of early childhood education principles, developmentally appropriate practice, and best practices.
• Experience facilitating workshops, professional development, and adult learning experiences.
• Knowledge of early childhood curricula, classroom observation practices, and experience using a variety of assessment tools preferred.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to effectively coach, mentor, and motivate adult learners with diverse educational backgrounds.
• Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating professional learning opportunities and program activities.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple scholars and competing priorities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.

• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and participant records.

Qualification Standards

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services, Early Childhood Administration, Education, or a closely related field required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in early childhood education, coaching, mentoring, adult education, technical assistance, or professional development.
• Experience working with the Child Development Associate (CDA®) Credential process preferred.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, virtual meeting platforms (Microsoft Teams and Zoom), database software, and technology platforms such as Early Education Pathways (EEP), the Council's e-Portfolio system, Monday.com, Schoology, or similar learning management and participant tracking systems preferred.

Special Requirements

• This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement in accordance with University policy and operational needs. • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that meets Delaware State University requirements for operating State of Delaware FLEET vehicles.
• Must be able to travel statewide to provide coaching, facilitate professional learning experiences, conduct classroom observation visits, attend meetings, and support ECIC initiatives.
• Must have access to reliable high-speed internet capable of supporting virtual coaching sessions, online professional learning, video conferencing, and completion of remote administrative responsibilities.
• Must maintain a professional remote work environment that supports confidential coaching sessions, meetings, participant communications, and administrative responsibilities.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support coaching sessions, Communities of Practice, portfolio cohorts, professional development activities, and ECIC-sponsored events.
