Which companies sponsor visas for construction engineers in Delaware?
DuPont and its spinoffs have historically sponsored construction and process engineers at their Wilmington-area facilities. Large general contractors working on Delaware's infrastructure and industrial projects, including firms supporting DelDOT and Port of Wilmington expansion, also file H-1B visa petitions. Multinational engineering consultancies with Delaware offices, such as AECOM and WSP, are among the more consistent sponsors for construction engineer roles.
Which visa types are most common for construction engineers in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for construction engineers in Delaware, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which applies to engineers and avoids the H-1B lottery. Some senior-level engineers pursue O-1 visas based on extraordinary ability.
How to find construction engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find construction engineer roles in Delaware where employers are open to visa sponsorship. You can filter specifically by state and role to surface relevant opportunities without sifting through listings from employers who do not sponsor. Given Delaware's smaller market, setting up alerts on Migrate Mate ensures you catch new postings as soon as they appear, which matters in a competitive field.
Which cities in Delaware have the most construction engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington is Delaware's primary job market for construction engineers, given its concentration of corporate headquarters, chemical and industrial facilities, and proximity to major transportation infrastructure. Newark, home to the University of Delaware and several research and development campuses, also generates engineering demand. Dover, as the state capital, sees steady public-sector and infrastructure-related construction activity through DelDOT and state facility projects.
Are there state-specific considerations for construction engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's construction engineering market is heavily influenced by industrial and chemical sector projects, meaning employers often seek candidates with process or industrial construction backgrounds rather than purely residential or commercial experience. Delaware participates in federal prevailing wage requirements for H-1B roles, so employers must pay the DOL-determined wage for the relevant occupation and county. Delaware's proximity to Philadelphia also means some engineers work across state lines, which can affect LCA filing requirements.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
