We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded software for our next-generation breast and skeletal health systems. In addition to core embedded software development, this role requires hands-on experience with low-level embedded software development, including driver-level design, implementation, and testing, as well as board bring-up activities. The engineer will work closely with hardware teams to interface with peripherals and ensure reliable system operation using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet. This role is based out of Newark, DE and will require onsite presence.
What You’ll Do
- Develop an expert-level understanding of our products and how they’re used in clinical practice.
- Design, implement, and validate low-level device drivers for embedded platforms.
- Perform board bring-up activities, including hardware/software integration, debugging, and validation on new hardware platforms.
- Develop and debug software interfaces for hardware peripherals using protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Work within an Agile/Scrum/Continuous Integration environment to deliver reliable, production-ready code.
- Contribute to technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, and release notes.
- Identify, design, and implement appropriate software testing; collaborate closely with Test Engineers to support verification and validation.
- Diagnose, prioritize, and resolve complex technical issues; analyze defects and drive process improvements.
- Serve as a technical leader on the team—mentoring junior engineers, promoting best practices, and insisting on high standards for quality and usability.
- Partner with Product Management and domain experts to define product improvements and new features.
- Perform software risk assessments (e.g., FMEAs) and help develop appropriate mitigations at the component, subsystem, and system levels.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and propose opportunities for product and process improvements.
- Train cross-functional teams on key product design elements and proper usage where needed.
- In addition to core embedded software development, this role requires hands-on experience with low-level embedded software development, including driver-level design, implementation, and testing, as well as board bring-up activities.
- The engineer will work closely with hardware teams to interface with peripherals and ensure reliable system operation using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.

Which companies sponsor visas for customer engineers in Delaware?
Delaware's largest visa sponsors for technical roles tend to be financial services and technology employers headquartered or operating in Wilmington, including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Capital One, and DuPont. Larger enterprise software and cloud infrastructure vendors with regional offices in New Castle County also appear in Department of Labor disclosure data as sponsors for customer-facing engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for customer engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for customer engineer positions in Delaware, as these roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field and qualify as specialty occupations. Candidates with Australian citizenship may pursue the E-3 visa. Those already holding an L-1 visa intracompany transfer visa through a multinational employer are another common profile for these roles.
Which cities in Delaware have the most customer engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the overwhelming majority of customer engineer sponsorship activity in Delaware, driven by its concentration of financial technology, banking, and professional services employers. Newark, home to the University of Delaware and several technology companies along the Route 1 corridor, is a secondary market. Dover sees occasional postings but is not a primary hub for customer engineering roles requiring sponsorship.
How to find customer engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse customer engineer openings in Delaware without sifting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by state and job title to surface active postings from Delaware employers, particularly those in Wilmington's financial and technology sectors, that have a documented history of sponsoring H-1B and other work visa categories.
Are there any Delaware-specific considerations for customer engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Delaware's favorable corporate law environment means many large multinationals are legally incorporated there, but their actual hiring operations for customer engineers are often based in Wilmington or outside the state entirely. For H-1B purposes, the work location on the Labor Condition Application must reflect where you'll physically work, so confirm the actual office location with employers before assuming a Delaware incorporation means a Delaware posting. University of Delaware graduates in engineering and computer science form a notable local talent pipeline that some Wilmington-area employers actively recruit from.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored customer engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
