Which companies and institutions sponsor visas for instructors in Delaware?
The University of Delaware, Delaware State University, and Delaware Technical Community College are among the most consistent sponsors for instructor roles in the state. Wilmington-based financial services firms occasionally sponsor corporate training and instructional design positions. K-12 public school districts, particularly those serving Wilmington and Newark, also sponsor teachers and instructors under H-1B and J-1 programs when filling specialty or STEM subject shortages.
Which visa types are most common for instructor roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for college and university instructors whose roles require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as engineering, computer science, or business. The J-1 Exchange Visitor visa is widely used for visiting scholars, research faculty, and K-12 teachers through department-sponsored exchange programs. Some religious or nonprofit education organizations also use the R-1 visa for qualifying instructors.
How to find instructor visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters instructor roles in Delaware by visa sponsorship history, so you are not sorting through listings from employers who do not sponsor. Search by role and state to see active postings from Delaware universities, school districts, and training organizations. Creating a profile on Migrate Mate also helps you track which Delaware employers have sponsored similar roles in the past.
Which cities in Delaware have the most instructor sponsorship jobs?
Newark is the top city for instructor sponsorship due to the University of Delaware's size and its consistent H-1B and J-1 filings for faculty and teaching staff. Dover, home to Delaware State University, is the second most active market. Wilmington generates sponsorship demand for corporate trainers and instructional designers, particularly in the financial services and insurance sectors that dominate the city's economy.
Are there any Delaware-specific considerations for instructor visa sponsorship?
Delaware's small size means the sponsoring employer pool is narrower than in larger states, so competition for institutional roles at the University of Delaware and Delaware State University can be significant. Instructors pursuing H-1B sponsorship should confirm their role qualifies as a specialty occupation, meaning it requires a directly related bachelor's degree or higher. Delaware public school districts that sponsor teachers through H-1B must file a Labor Condition Application certifying the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the region.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored instructor jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
