Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineers in Florida?
Defense and aerospace contractors are among the most active sponsors in Florida, including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris, which is headquartered in Melbourne. Florida Power and Light and Duke Energy Florida sponsor engineers in the power and utilities sector. Semiconductor and hardware firms in the Tampa and Orlando corridors also have documented H-1B filing histories with the Department of Labor.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical engineers in Florida, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Engineers from Australia may pursue the E-3, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa. Some roles at multinational firms may support L-1 transfers for engineers already employed abroad.
Which cities in Florida have the most electrical engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Space Coast, particularly the Brevard County area around Melbourne and Cape Canaveral, concentrates the highest density of defense and aerospace engineering roles with sponsorship history. Orlando follows closely due to its simulation, defense, and semiconductor clusters. Tampa supports engineering hiring across energy, defense logistics, and infrastructure. Miami sees demand from international engineering firms and telecommunications companies serving Latin American markets.
How to find electrical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a verified history of visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify electrical engineer positions in Florida without sorting through companies that don't sponsor. You can filter by location to focus on cities like Orlando, Tampa, or the Space Coast, and by role to surface positions relevant to your discipline, whether that's power systems, embedded systems, RF engineering, or aerospace.
Are there any state-specific considerations for electrical engineers seeking sponsorship in Florida?
Florida's large defense sector creates a practical consideration worth knowing: many positions at prime defense contractors require a U.S. security clearance, which is generally not accessible to non-U.S. persons. This limits sponsorship eligibility at certain firms despite their overall willingness to hire internationally. Engineering roles in power utilities, civil infrastructure, and commercial technology tend to have fewer clearance restrictions and a more accessible sponsorship path for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
