Which companies sponsor visas for interns in Florida?
Companies with a consistent track record of sponsoring international interns in Florida include Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Chewy in Dania Beach, and large healthcare and finance employers in Miami and Tampa. Technology firms in the Tampa Bay area and hospitality companies tied to Orlando's tourism industry also participate. Sponsorship is never guaranteed, and availability varies by program cycle and role.
Which visa types are most common for intern roles in Florida?
The J-1 visa intern and trainee visa is the most common pathway for international interns in Florida, typically arranged through a designated sponsor organization. F-1 students enrolled at Florida universities may work through Curricular Practical Training during their studies or Optional Practical Training after graduation. H-1B visa sponsorship for intern-level roles is far less common and generally requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation.
Which cities in Florida have the most intern sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads for finance, international trade, and technology internships, supported by its concentration of multinational firms and proximity to Latin American markets. Orlando attracts interns in hospitality, simulation technology, and aerospace. Tampa has a growing tech and cybersecurity sector with active internship programs. Smaller markets like Gainesville and Tallahassee draw interns through university-affiliated employers and state government agencies.
How to find intern visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability, making it more efficient than searching general job boards for intern positions in Florida. You can filter by location to focus on Miami, Orlando, or Tampa, and by role type to surface internship-level opportunities. Reviewing active listings regularly matters because sponsored intern roles fill quickly and program cycles often have set application windows.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for international interns seeking sponsorship?
Florida's large international student population at schools like Florida International University, University of Miami, and University of Central Florida creates strong university-to-employer pipelines that international interns can access through campus recruiting. The state's concentration of aerospace and defense employers in the Space Coast region means some internships involve security clearance requirements, which can limit eligibility for non-U.S. persons. J-1 program timelines must align with an employer's hiring cycle, so starting early is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored intern jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
