Job Overview:
Compiles and computes freight rates and other charges for transportation services, according to rate tables and tariff regulations. Plans and establishes production schedules. Reviews and releases shipping orders to production area according to schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- May require forklift and crane functions to assist in the shipment of Cargo.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma and 2 years’ experience required
- 1+ years' experience coordinating shipments in manufacturing or logistics environment
- 1+ years' experience working in industrial environment.
Competencies:
- Reads shipping orders to determine quantity and type of transportation needed.
- Examines shipping bills to obtain description of freight and classifies freight according to rate description.
- Consults rate schedule to obtain specific rate for each item classified depending on distance shipped.
- Computes total freight charge and records charges on shipping order.
- Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for loading products.
- Annotates shipping orders to inform shipping department of loading location and time of arrival of transportation.
- Calculates and records storage, redelivery, and re-consignment charges when applicable.
- Answers inquiries from shippers regarding rates, routing, packing procedures and interline transportation procedures.
- Prepares and maintains records of freight movements including NAFTA documentation.
Preferences:
- Associate's degree or related coursework preferred.
- SAP or ERP experience.
- Experience with shipping documentation (BOLs, customs).
- Excel and Word proficiency.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements:
- Fully site based, this position will be based at our Ocala, FL location, with minimal anticipated travel.
