Which universities and institutions sponsor visas for assistant professors in Georgia?
The University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, Georgia State University, and Kennesaw State University are among the most active sponsors of work visas for assistant professor hires. These institutions have established international faculty hiring pipelines and dedicated immigration support offices that manage the sponsorship process, including petition filing and prevailing wage compliance.
Which visa types are most common for assistant professor roles in Georgia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for assistant professors in Georgia, given that the role meets specialty occupation requirements through its degree-specific nature. Many universities also use the O-1A for candidates with exceptional scholarly records. J-1 exchange visitor visas are used for visiting faculty and postdoctoral scholars, though they typically do not lead directly to permanent faculty appointments.
Which cities in Georgia have the most assistant professor sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta has the highest concentration of assistant professor sponsorship positions in Georgia, driven by Georgia Tech, Emory, and Georgia State University. Athens is the next most significant location as home to the University of Georgia, a flagship research institution with broad departmental hiring. Smaller cities like Kennesaw, Valdosta, and Savannah also have university campuses that periodically sponsor international faculty.
How to find assistant professor visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate is a job board specifically built for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter by role and state to find assistant professor positions in Georgia from universities and institutions that actively sponsor. This is more efficient than broad job searches because listings are curated for sponsorship eligibility, saving time during a competitive academic hiring cycle.
Are there any Georgia-specific considerations for assistant professors seeking visa sponsorship?
Georgia's large public university system, governed by the University System of Georgia, follows standardized faculty hiring and immigration compliance procedures across its 26 institutions. Georgia Tech's strong STEM research profile means particularly high demand for international faculty in engineering and computing fields. Public universities must adhere to federal prevailing wage requirements, and sponsorship timelines are often tied to the academic calendar and H-1B cap deadlines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored assistant professor jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
