Which companies sponsor visas for bookkeepers in Hawaii?
Hawaii's largest visa-sponsoring employers for bookkeeping roles tend to be major hotel and resort operators, regional health systems such as Hawaii Pacific Health and The Queen's Health Systems, federal contractors, and large retail or hospitality management companies headquartered in Honolulu. Smaller accounting firms occasionally sponsor as well, though mid-to-large organizations with established HR infrastructure are the most consistent sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for bookkeeper roles in Hawaii?
The H-1B is the most common visa for bookkeepers who hold a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field, since the role must qualify as a specialty occupation. Some bookkeepers from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may explore the TN visa under the accountant category. Each pathway requires employer sponsorship and a qualifying degree-to-job match.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most bookkeeper sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the large majority of bookkeeper sponsorship opportunities in Hawaii, driven by its concentration of corporate headquarters, hospitals, hotels, and government agencies. Kahului on Maui is a secondary market, supported by resort operations and agricultural companies. Hilo on the Big Island has a smaller but active employer base, particularly in healthcare and state government, where bookkeeping roles occasionally carry sponsorship.
How to find bookkeeper visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters bookkeeper listings to show only roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship. For Hawaii specifically, you can filter by state to surface Honolulu, Maui, and Big Island opportunities in hospitality, healthcare, and government contracting, the sectors most likely to sponsor. This saves significant time compared to screening general job postings manually.
Are there any Hawaii-specific considerations for bookkeeper visa sponsorship?
Hawaii's high cost of living affects prevailing wage determinations, which employers must meet when sponsoring H-1B workers. This can work in a candidate's favor, as certified wage floors for bookkeepers in the Honolulu metropolitan area tend to be higher than national averages. The state's heavy reliance on tourism also means seasonal hiring cycles influence when bookkeeper roles open, with the most activity typically in the first quarter as hotels plan annual budgets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored bookkeeper jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
