Which companies sponsor visas for data science engineers in Illinois?
Large Illinois-based employers with established sponsorship track records include Allstate, Morningstar, Zebra Technologies, United Airlines, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Discover Financial. Chicago's major consulting and technology firms, including Accenture and Thoughtworks, also regularly file H-1B visa petitions for data science engineer roles. Mid-sized startups in the Fulton Market and River North tech corridors sponsor as well, though less frequently than enterprise employers.
Which visa types are most common for data science engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa for data science engineers in Illinois, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT can work while their employer files. The O-1A is an option for engineers with strong publication records or notable industry recognition, though it requires substantial documentation.
Which cities in Illinois have the most data science engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of data science engineer sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the Loop, Fulton Market, and River North neighborhoods. The northern suburbs, including Deerfield and Schaumburg, also have demand driven by employers like Walgreens and Motorola Solutions. Outside the Chicagoland area, sponsorship opportunities for this role are limited.
How to find data science engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate lets you filter data science engineer roles specifically by visa sponsorship availability and state, making it straightforward to identify Illinois employers actively open to sponsoring. Because sponsorship intent isn't always listed in standard job postings, a platform built around immigration filters saves significant time. Migrate Mate aggregates roles from Illinois employers, including Chicago's finance, insurance, and tech sectors, where sponsorship is most common for this role.
Are there any Illinois-specific factors data science engineers should know about visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers must pay data science engineers at the prevailing wage level set by the Department of Labor for the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metropolitan area, which is one of the higher-cost regions in the Midwest. The University of Illinois, Northwestern, and University of Chicago all generate significant OPT pipelines, meaning Illinois employers are generally familiar with sponsorship processes. Finance and insurance firms, heavily concentrated in Chicago, have some of the highest H-1B filing rates in the state for data-related roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
