Associate – Environmental Design
In Office / Monday – Friday (8:00 AM TO 5:00 PM)
Description
At AmTab Manufacturing Corporation, we don’t just make learning environments — we make them matter. Our mission is to build student-first spaces that transform how K–12 schools function, feel, and flourish. Every cafeteria, commons, and collaboration area we touch becomes a stage for creativity, inclusion, and energy.
As a minority-owned, 100% made-in-the-USA company, AmTab is proud to own our design, manufacturing, and installation process from start to finish.
We’re looking for a designer who doesn’t just shape walls — they shape experiences. If that’s you, read on.
As an Associate – Environmental Design (Remote), you’ll bring brand, culture, and community identity to life through large-format graphics, signage, murals, and visual storytelling elements that personalize K–12 learning spaces. Sitting within the Office Work Group, this role bridges graphic design, interior aesthetics, and architectural branding — infusing meaning and emotion into every square foot we furnish.
This isn’t marketing. This is environmental transformation — and you’ll be at the heart of it.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate school culture into full-space graphic installations using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for wall art, wayfinding, stage graphics, and surface designs.
- Design across multiple surfaces and scales — from 3D lettering and signage to vinyl murals and ceiling features.
- Work collaboratively with our Interior Design and Education Partnerships teams to align environmental designs with spatial layouts.
- Manage the print-readiness of all assets and coordinate with production teams for proper output specifications.
- Participate in concept sessions with school districts to capture values, colors, mascots, and vision.
- Maintain a working knowledge of signage materials, graphic finishes, and educational design trends.
- Present visual design concepts to internal teams and clients with clarity and confidence.
- Adapt quickly to district feedback and evolve designs with agility and creativity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Interior Design, or related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in environmental or experiential graphic design.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience with large-scale printing or signage production preferred.
- Portfolio demonstrating multi-surface visual storytelling and experiential design.
- Familiarity with education markets, student-centered design, or branded environments is a plus.
- Strong visual communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines across multiple, simultaneous design projects.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced team.
- Knowledge of ADA signage guidelines and OSHA visual safety standards is preferred.
We design learning environments that feel like they belong. If you’re ready to tell bold stories through space and signage — let’s talk. Your designs will become the heartbeat of a school, the pride of a student body, and the backdrop of thousands of young learners’ daily lives.

Which manufacturing companies sponsor E-3 visas in Illinois?
Illinois manufacturers with histories of sponsoring specialty occupation workers include Caterpillar, Deere and Company, Abbott Laboratories, Illinois Tool Works, and Tenneco. These companies regularly hire engineers, quality assurance specialists, and process improvement professionals in roles that meet the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. Sponsorship activity is not guaranteed and varies by role, location, and hiring cycle, so confirming directly with each employer is always necessary.
Which cities in Illinois have the most manufacturing E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, including Peoria, Rockford, and the Quad Cities metro area, account for the majority of manufacturing E-3 sponsorship activity in Illinois. Peoria is a hub for heavy equipment manufacturing, particularly around Caterpillar's global headquarters. Rockford has a strong aerospace and precision machining sector. The Chicago metro area hosts corporate manufacturing headquarters and advanced manufacturing facilities across multiple industries.
What types of manufacturing roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
Roles that qualify must meet the E-3 specialty occupation standard, meaning they require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field as a minimum entry requirement. In Illinois manufacturing, this commonly includes mechanical engineers, industrial engineers, quality engineers, process engineers, manufacturing systems analysts, and supply chain specialists. General production, assembly line, or supervisory roles that do not require a specific degree typically do not qualify for E-3 sponsorship.
How do I find manufacturing E-3 sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers on work visas, including Australians pursuing E-3 sponsorship. You can filter by visa type, industry, and state to find manufacturing roles in Illinois where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because E-3 sponsorship requires employer participation from the start, focusing your search on companies already familiar with the visa category, as listed on Migrate Mate, saves significant time in the job search process.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for E-3 sponsorship in manufacturing?
Illinois does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond federal E-3 obligations, but Illinois manufacturing employers must still file a certified Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before you can apply for the E-3 visa. Illinois also has prevailing wage requirements embedded in the LCA process that reflect local wage standards for the specific occupation and region, which can differ meaningfully between Chicago metro roles and downstate manufacturing positions.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 manufacturing jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
