Which companies sponsor visas for product engineers in Illinois?
Several Illinois-based employers have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for product engineer roles. Motorola Solutions, Zebra Technologies, and Relativity are among the more active sponsors in Chicago. Boeing and Caterpillar (with Illinois operations) also sponsor product engineers, particularly those working at the intersection of hardware and software. Sponsorship activity tends to concentrate in enterprise tech, manufacturing, and logistics technology.
Which visa types are most common for product engineers in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product engineers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa. Australians may be eligible for the E-3. Those with extraordinary ability can pursue the O-1A independently of employer sponsorship requirements.
Which cities in Illinois have the most product engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago is by far the dominant market, accounting for the majority of product engineer sponsorship activity in Illinois. The Chicagoland suburbs, including Schaumburg (home to Motorola Solutions) and Deerfield, also host significant employer concentrations. Outside the metro, Peoria has some presence due to Caterpillar's operations. For most international candidates, Chicago and its immediate suburbs represent the practical target area.
How to find product engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters product engineer jobs in Illinois by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving significant research time. The platform aggregates roles from employers with documented sponsorship histories, so you can focus on companies already open to sponsoring. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate surfaces opportunities that general job boards don't filter for sponsorship at all.
Are there state-specific factors that affect product engineer sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose state-level visa requirements, but Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations apply to all H-1B positions and vary by metropolitan area. Chicago's wage levels are among the higher designations nationally for product engineering roles, which can affect which employers are willing to sponsor. The University of Illinois system also produces a steady pipeline of international engineering graduates who enter the Illinois job market on OPT, making early sponsorship conversations common.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
