Which companies sponsor visas for product software engineers in Illinois?
Chicago-based employers with consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories for product software engineers include Motorola Solutions, Salesforce, Morningstar, Groupon, and large financial technology firms like Avant and Enova. Enterprise consulting firms such as Accenture and Deloitte, both with significant Illinois presences, also sponsor regularly. Mid-size SaaS companies in Chicago's tech corridor have expanded sponsorship activity as the local talent pool for product-focused engineering roles has grown.
Which visa types are most common for product software engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product software engineers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. L-1B visas appear for engineers transferring within multinational companies. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals should look into the TN visa under the USMCA.
Which cities in Illinois have the most product software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of product software engineer sponsorship jobs in Illinois, particularly in neighborhoods like the West Loop and River North where tech offices are concentrated. Suburban areas including Schaumburg and Naperville host engineering teams for larger enterprise and manufacturing technology companies. Outside the Chicagoland area, opportunities are limited, making proximity to Chicago a practical factor for international candidates targeting sponsored roles.
How to find product software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for product software engineer roles in Illinois without manually screening out employers who don't sponsor. The platform is built for international candidates and surfaces openings at Illinois employers actively filing H-1B and other work visa petitions. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate cuts through the noise and focuses your search on positions where sponsorship is a realistic part of the offer.
Are there state-specific factors product software engineers should know about sponsoring in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose state-level visa or sponsorship requirements beyond federal standards, but the Chicago metro's prevailing wage levels for product software engineers are set at rates reflecting a high-cost urban market, which employers must meet when filing a Labor Condition Application. The presence of strong university pipelines from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern means employers are accustomed to sponsoring international graduates, which generally makes Illinois companies more sponsorship-experienced than employers in smaller markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product software engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
