Which companies in Illinois sponsor visas for project accountants?
Large construction firms, engineering companies, and real estate development groups are the most active sponsors for project accountants in Illinois. Companies like Skanska USA, Turner Construction, Mortenson, and multinational professional services firms operating in Chicago have a documented history of H-1B filings for accounting roles. Infrastructure-focused contractors working on public and private projects across the Chicago metro also appear regularly in Department of Labor disclosure data.
Which visa types are most commonly used for project accountant roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project accountant positions in Illinois, since the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may also be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA, as accountants are a listed TN profession. Some employers also support EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship for longer-term hires.
Which cities in Illinois have the most project accountant visa sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the vast majority of project accountant sponsorship opportunities in Illinois. The city's active construction sector, concentration of engineering firms, and large corporate real estate market drive consistent demand. Suburbs like Schaumburg, Oak Brook, and Rosemont also host regional offices of national firms that occasionally hire and sponsor project accountants, though the density of opportunities in the city itself is significantly higher.
How to find project accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is a job board specifically built for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for project accountant roles in Illinois and see which employers have an active history of sponsoring work visas. This saves significant time compared to researching individual company hiring practices. Migrate Mate pulls together sponsorship-verified listings, making it easier to focus applications on employers who are genuinely open to sponsoring candidates.
Are there state-specific or role-specific factors to know about project accountant sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose additional state-level visa requirements, but project accountants here are often embedded in industries with prevailing wage obligations tied to federally funded infrastructure work. Employers filing an H-1B Labor Condition Application must attest the offered wage meets Department of Labor prevailing wage levels for the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area. Project accountants with CPA licensure or experience in construction accounting software tend to be more competitive for sponsored roles in this market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project accountant jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
