Search Technical Project Manager Jobs in IllinoisTechnical Project Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for technical project managers in Illinois?
Chicago-based employers with consistent H-1B sponsorship records for technical project managers include Motorola Solutions, United Airlines, Accenture, Deloitte, and major financial institutions like Northern Trust and Discover Financial. Healthcare systems such as Northwestern Medicine and Advocate Aurora Health also sponsor technical project managers, particularly for large-scale IT modernization and infrastructure programs.
Which visa types are most common for technical project manager roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa for technical project managers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field. L-1B visas are also used when candidates transfer from a multinational employer's overseas office into a U.S.-based project management position. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals where the role meets the relevant occupational criteria.
Which cities in Illinois have the most technical project manager sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the vast majority of technical project manager sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the River North, Loop, and Fulton Market tech districts. Suburban areas including Schaumburg, Deerfield, and Oak Brook also have meaningful demand, driven by corporate headquarters for companies like Motorola Solutions, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and McDonald's, all of which maintain large technology teams.
How to find technical project manager visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search for technical project manager roles in Illinois without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces openings from employers with active sponsorship track records across Chicago and Illinois suburbs, which is particularly useful given how inconsistently sponsorship eligibility is disclosed in standard job postings for technical project manager roles.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for technical project managers seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois sits in the Department of Labor's Chicago region for prevailing wage determinations, which affects the wage level an employer must certify on the Labor Condition Application. Chicago's high concentration of consulting firms means many technical project manager roles involve client-site placements, which requires employers to file amended petitions if the worksite changes significantly. Candidates with degrees from Illinois universities like University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Northwestern have a notable presence in the local tech hiring pipeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical project manager jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
