Which companies sponsor visas for mechanics in Indiana?
Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette, Cummins in Columbus, and large automotive dealership groups in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne have historically filed for work visas in skilled trades and mechanical roles. Fleet maintenance contractors supporting Indiana's logistics and manufacturing sectors also appear in Department of Labor disclosure data as sponsors for mechanical positions.
Which visa types are most common for mechanic roles in Indiana?
H-2B visas cover temporary non-agricultural workers and are used for seasonal or peak-demand mechanic needs. H-1B sponsorship is possible but requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, which is a high bar for most mechanic positions. Employers hiring mechanics for long-term roles sometimes pursue EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship, which covers skilled workers with at least two years of training or experience.
Which cities in Indiana have the most mechanic sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis concentrates the most opportunities due to its size, dense dealership networks, and proximity to major distribution hubs. Lafayette stands out because of Subaru of Indiana Automotive's large manufacturing and maintenance workforce. Columbus, home to Cummins headquarters, supports ongoing demand for diesel and engine mechanics. Fort Wayne and South Bend also have active automotive and heavy equipment service markets.
How to find mechanic visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, making it easier to focus your search on mechanic positions in Indiana without sorting through listings from companies that won't sponsor. You can search by state and role type, so Indiana mechanic roles are surfaced directly. This saves significant time compared to researching employer sponsorship histories manually.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for mechanics seeking visa sponsorship?
Indiana's manufacturing concentration, particularly in automotive assembly and diesel engine production, means mechanic roles here often require specialized certifications such as ASE credentials or manufacturer-specific training. Employers sponsoring visas must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Indianapolis or relevant metropolitan area, so the offered position needs to reflect local wage standards. Candidates with documented experience in high-volume production or commercial fleet environments tend to be more competitive.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanic jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
