Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Indiana?
Engineering firms with established Indiana offices are the most active sponsors. DLZ Corporation, headquartered in Indianapolis, regularly hires structural engineers for transportation and infrastructure projects. HNTB and Woolpert also maintain Indiana practices. Larger national firms like AECOM and Michael Baker International operate in the state and have documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for engineering roles through DOL disclosure data.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineers in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Indiana. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation given its requirement for at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Candidates with a Canadian or Mexican citizenship may also be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA, which covers engineers and does not require a lottery. Some employers also use O-1 visa for engineers with exceptional credentials.
Which cities in Indiana have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis concentrates the majority of structural engineering sponsorship activity in Indiana, driven by state agency contracts, private development, and proximity to major transportation corridors. Fort Wayne supports demand through manufacturing and industrial facility projects. South Bend has seen infrastructure investment tied to economic development initiatives. Evansville rounds out the secondary markets, particularly for bridge and utility-related engineering work.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by state and role to see structural engineer positions in Indiana where employers are open to visa sponsorship. This removes the guesswork of applying to firms that won't sponsor. Migrate Mate aggregates sponsorship-friendly postings, so you spend less time screening and more time applying to roles that actually fit your immigration situation.
Are there any state-specific considerations for structural engineers seeking sponsorship in Indiana?
Indiana requires structural engineers to hold a Professional Engineer license for certain project types, which is obtained through NCEES and administered by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Foreign-educated engineers should verify that their degree meets the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates equivalency standard used by the board. Indiana's strong university pipeline through Purdue and Indiana University also means employers in the state are generally familiar with recruiting international engineering graduates on OPT before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
