Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Kentucky?
Engineering consultancies with established Kentucky offices are the most active sponsors, including Stantec, HNTB, Kimley-Horn, and Terracon. Large construction management firms working on Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contracts also sponsor structural engineers periodically. Firms with multi-state project portfolios tend to have more experience navigating H-1B visa sponsorship than smaller regional practices.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Kentucky?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Kentucky, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Engineers from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals can explore the TN visa under the engineer category. EB-3 immigrant visas are also used by employers willing to sponsor permanent residency.
Which cities in Kentucky have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Louisville is Kentucky's primary market for structural engineering sponsorship, driven by bridge rehabilitation projects, commercial development, and proximity to the I-65 corridor. Lexington is a secondary hub with university-adjacent infrastructure work. Northern Kentucky, particularly Covington and Florence, benefits from spillover demand tied to Cincinnati metro construction and the Brent Spence Bridge project.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kentucky?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search structural engineer roles in Kentucky without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from engineering consultancies and infrastructure firms actively willing to sponsor, which is especially useful given that Kentucky's structural engineering market is smaller and less visible than major metro markets.
Are there state-specific considerations for structural engineers seeking sponsorship in Kentucky?
Kentucky requires a Professional Engineer license for engineers of record on structural projects, so employers sponsoring international candidates typically expect P.E. licensure or active progress toward it. The University of Kentucky and University of Louisville produce local engineering graduates, meaning sponsored candidates often compete by offering specialized skills in bridge design, geotechnical work, or infrastructure rehabilitation that local talent pools may not fully cover.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Kentucky?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
