SALARY
Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
About us
Not every public accounting firm is built the same - and if you’ve been in the space long enough, you know that. This team has quietly built one of the strongest reputations in the market by doing something simple but rare: prioritizing their people as much as their clients. What does that actually look like? It means managers here aren’t burning out during busy season only to recover the rest of the year. It means leadership is intentional about workload, retention is unusually high, and the expectation is that you have a life outside of work—and can actually enjoy it. This opportunity is ideal for someone coming from an Accounting, Tax, or Audit background who’s ready to shift into a more relationship-driven, internal client accounting role—without sacrificing growth, compensation, or technical exposure.
WHY JOIN US?
We offer a highly progressive lifestyle and culture and our track record of employee retention is off the charts! Candidates who join our team stay with us for the long-run!
- Strong work-life balance: summer hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day with half days on Fridays and hours in low 30s maximum.
- Consistent, realistic work-life balance
- Long-term growth path with real upward mobility
- Strong benefits, 401k match, and flexibility built into the culture
- A firm that’s growing, but not at the expense of its people
JOB DETAILS
What you’d be stepping into:
- A manager-level role with visibility across client relationships, financials, and team leadership
- A firm where people tend to stay (and grow) long-term
- A schedule that’s built to be sustainable, including reduced summer hours (yes, real ones)
- Collaborative environment with strong technical peers, not siloed teams
The work itself (high level): You’ll oversee a mix of financial reporting, tax review (corporate and pass-through), and client advisory work while mentoring staff and managing workflow across engagements. This is a role where you’re trusted to think, not just execute.
WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR:
- 6–8+ years in public accounting or a related environment
- Strong foundation across financials + tax (1120 / 1120S / 1065 exposure)
- Experience reviewing work and leading others
- CPA (or on track) is a plus, but not a dealbreaker depending on experience
If you’ve been thinking about making a move but want to be selective about where you land, this is worth a conversation. Please apply and send your resume to Travis.Poley@jobot.com.

Which companies sponsor visas for bookkeepers in Iowa?
Iowa employers that have historically filed visa sponsorships for accounting and bookkeeping roles include Principal Financial Group, Deere and Company's regional offices, Hy-Vee, MidWestOne Bank, and several regional public accounting firms. Agricultural cooperatives and manufacturing companies in the state also employ bookkeepers, though sponsorship activity is more common at larger organizations with established HR and legal infrastructure for immigration filings.
Which visa types are most common for bookkeeper roles in Iowa?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for bookkeepers in Iowa, provided the role is structured as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. Some candidates also qualify through the TN visa if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals. EB-3 immigrant visas are another option for permanent sponsorship, though they involve significantly longer timelines.
Which cities in Iowa have the most bookkeeper sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines generates the most bookkeeper sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and healthcare employers. Cedar Rapids is the second-largest market, with manufacturing and agribusiness firms anchoring demand. Davenport, as part of the Quad Cities metro, offers additional opportunities tied to regional manufacturing and logistics companies that maintain in-house accounting departments.
How to find bookkeeper visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for bookkeeper roles in Iowa to see employers actively open to sponsorship. Because sponsorship willingness is not always stated in standard job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that curates sponsoring employers saves significant research time for accounting candidates targeting Iowa.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for bookkeeper visa sponsorship?
Iowa bookkeeper roles sponsored under the H-1B require employers to file a Labor Condition Application certifying the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the Des Moines or Cedar Rapids metropolitan area, depending on the worksite. Iowa State University and the University of Iowa produce accounting graduates who sometimes pursue OPT before seeking full sponsorship, giving employers in college towns like Ames and Iowa City familiarity with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored bookkeeper jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
