Which companies sponsor visas for bookkeepers in Iowa?
Iowa employers that have historically filed visa sponsorships for accounting and bookkeeping roles include Principal Financial Group, Deere and Company's regional offices, Hy-Vee, MidWestOne Bank, and several regional public accounting firms. Agricultural cooperatives and manufacturing companies in the state also employ bookkeepers, though sponsorship activity is more common at larger organizations with established HR and legal infrastructure for immigration filings.
Which visa types are most common for bookkeeper roles in Iowa?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for bookkeepers in Iowa, provided the role is structured as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. Some candidates also qualify through the TN visa if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals. EB-3 immigrant visas are another option for permanent sponsorship, though they involve significantly longer timelines.
Which cities in Iowa have the most bookkeeper sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines generates the most bookkeeper sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and healthcare employers. Cedar Rapids is the second-largest market, with manufacturing and agribusiness firms anchoring demand. Davenport, as part of the Quad Cities metro, offers additional opportunities tied to regional manufacturing and logistics companies that maintain in-house accounting departments.
How to find bookkeeper visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for bookkeeper roles in Iowa to see employers actively open to sponsorship. Because sponsorship willingness is not always stated in standard job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that curates sponsoring employers saves significant research time for accounting candidates targeting Iowa.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for bookkeeper visa sponsorship?
Iowa bookkeeper roles sponsored under the H-1B require employers to file a Labor Condition Application certifying the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the Des Moines or Cedar Rapids metropolitan area, depending on the worksite. Iowa State University and the University of Iowa produce accounting graduates who sometimes pursue OPT before seeking full sponsorship, giving employers in college towns like Ames and Iowa City familiarity with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored bookkeeper jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
