Which companies sponsor visas for care assistants in Iowa?
UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are among the larger Iowa employers with established international hiring processes. Regional long-term care operators and home health agencies also sponsor care assistants, particularly in areas with persistent staffing shortages. Sponsorship availability varies by facility size, budget, and current staffing needs, so confirming directly with each employer is important.
Which visa types are most common for care assistant roles in Iowa?
The H-1B visa applies to care assistant roles classified as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree, which can limit eligibility depending on how the position is defined. The EB-3 immigrant visa category is commonly used for skilled and unskilled healthcare support workers. Some internationally trained nurses or allied health professionals may qualify under EB-3 or TN classifications depending on their credentials and nationality.
Which cities in Iowa have the most care assistant sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines has the highest concentration of healthcare employers in Iowa and offers the most care assistant opportunities overall. Iowa City benefits from the presence of the University of Iowa Health Care system. Cedar Rapids and Davenport also have active healthcare markets with multiple hospital networks and long-term care providers that have historically recruited internationally to address staffing gaps.
How to find care assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles open to international candidates, making it easier to identify care assistant positions in Iowa where employers are willing to sponsor visas. Rather than sorting through general job boards, you can search by role and state to surface relevant openings. Focusing on larger health systems and long-term care networks in Des Moines and Iowa City tends to yield the most results.
Are there any state-specific considerations for care assistants seeking sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa requires care assistants working in certified nursing facilities to complete state-approved training and pass a competency evaluation for CNA certification. International candidates should verify their credentials meet Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing requirements before accepting an offer. Employers in Iowa's rural counties may be particularly motivated to sponsor candidates due to persistent workforce shortages in those areas compared to urban centers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored care assistant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
