Search Executive Assistant Jobs in IowaExecutive Assistant Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies in Iowa sponsor visas for executive assistant roles?
The most active visa sponsors for executive assistant positions in Iowa tend to be large corporations and healthcare institutions with established HR and legal infrastructure. Principal Financial Group, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnityPoint Health, and the University of Iowa health system have all sponsored administrative and professional support roles. Smaller regional employers sponsor less frequently, so targeting larger organizations in Des Moines and Iowa City improves your chances.
Which visa types are most common for executive assistant jobs in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for executive assistant roles when the position requires specialized skills and a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration or communications. However, H-1B approval for executive assistant roles is not guaranteed, as USCIS applies a specialty occupation standard. Candidates with O-1 eligibility or those transitioning from OPT or STEM OPT may find additional pathways worth discussing with an immigration attorney.
Which cities in Iowa have the most executive assistant visa sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines concentrates the majority of Iowa's executive assistant sponsorship activity, driven by its insurance, financial services, and healthcare sectors. Cedar Rapids is a secondary hub, with manufacturing firms like Quaker Oats and large regional employers offering administrative support roles. Iowa City generates demand through the University of Iowa and its affiliated hospital network, particularly for candidates with healthcare or research administration backgrounds.
How to find executive assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters executive assistant roles specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify Iowa employers actively willing to sponsor. Because many Iowa companies do not advertise sponsorship willingness in standard job postings, using a dedicated platform like Migrate Mate saves significant research time. Filtering by Iowa and the executive assistant category surfaces relevant openings across Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City employers.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for executive assistant sponsorship candidates?
Iowa employers sponsoring H-1B executive assistants must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Des Moines or Cedar Rapids metropolitan areas, which differ from national averages. The University of Iowa and Iowa State University occasionally support international candidates through cap-exempt H-1B petitions, which bypass the annual lottery. Candidates with experience in insurance administration, agricultural business operations, or healthcare systems align well with Iowa's dominant industry sectors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored executive assistant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
