Search Program Associate Jobs in IowaProgram Associate Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for program associates in Iowa?
Universities are among the most consistent visa sponsors for program associates in Iowa, with the University of Iowa and Iowa State University regularly filing H-1B petitions for research and administrative roles. Large health systems like UnityPoint Health and MercyOne, along with Des Moines-based nonprofits and federal grant-funded organizations, also have established sponsorship processes, particularly when roles require specialized degrees.
Which visa types are most common for program associate roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for program associates in Iowa, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. University-affiliated positions may also fall under cap-exempt H-1B status, which bypasses the annual lottery. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT are common entry points for recent graduates before an employer pursues H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in Iowa have the most program associate sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines and Iowa City account for the largest share of program associate sponsorship opportunities in the state. Iowa City's concentration of University of Iowa departments and affiliated research institutes drives consistent demand, while Des Moines hosts the headquarters of major health systems, insurance companies, and nonprofits. Ames, home to Iowa State University, is also a notable source of research-adjacent program associate openings.
How to find program associate visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, which is particularly useful for program associate positions in Iowa where sponsorship willingness varies significantly by employer type. Searching Migrate Mate for program associate roles in Iowa surfaces opportunities at universities, health systems, and nonprofits that have previously filed for work visas, saving time compared to applying broadly.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for program associates in Iowa?
Iowa's program associate market is heavily tied to its university and healthcare sectors, both of which tend to have in-house immigration support and established petitioning processes. Roles funded through federal or state grants at institutions like the University of Iowa or Iowa State often qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filings, which can accelerate timelines. Smaller nonprofits in the state may sponsor but typically have less experience navigating the process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program associate jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
