Which companies sponsor visas for solution engineers in Iowa?
Workiva, headquartered in Ames, is one of Iowa's most recognized technology employers and has a history of H-1B sponsorship for technical roles. In Des Moines, large financial services and insurance organizations including Principal Financial Group and Wells Fargo's operations hub have sponsored solution engineers. Enterprise software vendors with Midwest sales offices also periodically sponsor candidates for these client-facing technical roles.
Which visa types are most common for solution engineer roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for solution engineers in Iowa, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, meeting USCIS specialty occupation standards. Some candidates transition from F-1 OPT, particularly graduates of the University of Iowa or Iowa State University. TN visas apply for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals where the role maps to an eligible USMCA occupation category.
Which cities in Iowa have the most solution engineer sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the largest share of solution engineer sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance technology, and enterprise software companies. Ames is notable as the home of Workiva and benefits from proximity to Iowa State University. Cedar Rapids has a smaller but active technology sector, with employers in manufacturing software and logistics technology occasionally sponsoring solution engineers.
How to find solution engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can browse solution engineer roles in Iowa without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. Because Iowa's tech market is smaller than coastal hubs, setting up alerts on Migrate Mate for Des Moines and Ames helps you catch new sponsorship-eligible postings quickly. Targeting companies with established Iowa operations and a prior H-1B filing history tends to be more productive than approaching startups without that track record.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for solution engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Iowa follows federal Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, so sponsoring employers must pay wages aligned with the relevant wage level for solution engineer roles in each metropolitan area. Des Moines and Ames have different prevailing wage determinations than national averages, which can affect which employers choose to sponsor. Iowa State University and the University of Iowa produce a steady pipeline of technical graduates, which means some employers are familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions for solution engineer candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored solution engineer jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
