Which technology companies sponsor visas in Iowa?
Principal Financial Group, Workiva, Casey's General Stores, and Hy-Vee are among Iowa's largest visa sponsors for technology roles. Des Moines-based financial services companies frequently hire international talent for software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity positions. Insurance companies like Allied Insurance and smaller fintech startups also regularly sponsor H-1B visa and other work visas for qualified candidates.
How to find technology visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international candidates with Iowa technology companies that sponsor work visas. Focus your search on Des Moines metro area companies, particularly in financial services and agriculture technology sectors. Many Iowa employers are willing to sponsor because of the state's competitive talent market and lower competition compared to coastal tech hubs.
Which visa types are most common for technology roles in Iowa?
H-1B visas dominate Iowa's technology sponsorships, particularly for software engineers, data analysts, and IT specialists. O-1 visas are occasionally used for senior technology leaders or specialized AI researchers. E-3 visas work well for Australian candidates, while TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying technology occupations like computer systems analysts and software engineers.
Which cities in Iowa have the most technology sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines offers the highest concentration of technology visa sponsorship opportunities, driven by major financial services and insurance companies. Cedar Rapids follows with manufacturing technology and healthcare IT positions. Iowa City, home to the University of Iowa, provides research-focused opportunities, while Ames benefits from Iowa State University's engineering programs and agriculture technology companies.
What should I know about technology prevailing wages in Iowa?
Iowa's Department of Labor sets prevailing wages that are typically 15-25% lower than coastal markets, making it easier for employers to meet H-1B wage requirements. Technology roles in Des Moines financial district often qualify for higher wage levels, while rural Iowa positions may fall into Level 1 or Level 2 categories, creating more sponsorship opportunities for entry and mid-level candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technology jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
