- Define migration patterns (rehost, refactor, re-platform) based on application dependencies and business requirements
- Coordinate with application, network, and security teams to ensure successful migration outcomes
- Troubleshoot complex hybrid environment issues across VMware and cloud platforms
- Partner with cloud architects, infrastructure teams, security, and application teams to align migration strategies with business priorities
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, migration runbooks, and best practices
- Contribute to architectural standards and reference designs
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with prior general IT/infrastructure background
- 7+ years of overall IT infrastructure or systems experience, including server, network, and storage platforms
- Strong experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Expertise in compute, storage, networking, and security services
- Experience with hybrid and multi-cloud architectures
- Experience migrating workloads from on-premises environments (e.g., VMware) to cloud platforms

- Strong scripting and automation skills: Python, PowerShell, Bash
- Working knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001

- One or more active cloud certifications such as: AWS Certified (Associate or Professional), Microsoft Azure Certified, or Google Cloud Professional Engineer highly preferred
- Ability to travel up to 10%

Which companies sponsor visas for DevOps engineers in Kansas?
Garmin in Olathe, Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in North Kansas City, and Sprint (now part of T-Mobile) have historically sponsored H-1B visas for DevOps and infrastructure roles. Burns & McDonnell and Black & Veatch, both headquartered in the Kansas City area, also sponsor technology professionals. Aerospace employers in Wichita, including Spirit AeroSystems, have sponsored engineering and IT roles as well.
Which visa types are most common for DevOps roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for DevOps engineers in Kansas, as roles involving cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and systems reliability typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates with existing O-1 visa or L-1 visa status can also transfer to Kansas-based employers. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technology categories.
Which cities in Kansas have the most DevOps sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro, which straddles the Kansas-Missouri border with major employment centers in Overland Park, Olathe, and Lenexa on the Kansas side, has the highest concentration of DevOps sponsorship opportunities. This area hosts corporate headquarters for Garmin and Oracle Health alongside a growing technology sector. Wichita is a secondary market with DevOps demand driven by aerospace, manufacturing, and regional healthcare systems.
How to find devops visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter DevOps roles by state, including Kansas, showing only employers with active or historical visa sponsorship. This saves time compared to screening general job listings manually. Focusing your search on the Kansas City metro corridor, particularly Overland Park and Olathe, will surface the highest volume of DevOps postings from established Kansas sponsors.
Are there university or industry pipelines that feed DevOps hiring in Kansas?
The University of Kansas and Kansas State University both produce computer science and engineering graduates who enter local technology hiring pipelines, and employers familiar with OPT and STEM OPT extensions are common in the Kansas City metro. The concentration of Fortune 500 and large regional employers in Overland Park creates an environment where structured sponsorship processes are more established than in smaller markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored devops jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
