Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Kansas?
The largest sponsors of nursing visas in Kansas include The University of Kansas Health System, Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, and Via Christi Health in Wichita. Children's Mercy Kansas City also hires internationally for pediatric nursing roles. Larger regional health systems are generally more experienced with H-1B visa and EB-3 sponsorship than smaller rural hospitals or outpatient clinics.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Kansas?
Most international nurses in Kansas come through the EB-3 immigrant visa, which requires NCLEX passage, credential evaluation, and an approved labor certification from the Department of Labor. The H-1B is less common for bedside nursing because most RN roles don't consistently meet the specialty occupation standard, though it is used for advanced practice nurses such as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists.
Which cities in Kansas have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Kansas City (on the Kansas side of the metro) and Wichita account for the majority of sponsored nursing positions in the state. Topeka, as the state capital, also has a meaningful concentration through Stormont Vail and state-operated facilities. Rural and western Kansas communities have ongoing nursing shortages but typically have fewer resources to support international sponsorship processes.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters nursing jobs in Kansas specifically to employers that sponsor work visas, saving you the time of screening out positions that don't lead to sponsorship. You can browse current openings across the Kansas City metro, Wichita, and Topeka from health systems actively hiring internationally. Creating a profile also helps match you to roles aligned with your specialty and current visa status.
Are there any state-specific considerations for nurses seeking visa sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state, meaning internationally trained nurses who obtain a Kansas RN license may work across other compact states without additional licensure, which adds practical value for employers and nurses alike. Kansas also participates in federal healthcare shortage area designations, which can support J-1 visa waiver placements for nurses willing to serve in underserved communities for a defined period.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
