Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Pennsylvania?
The largest sponsors include UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), Penn Medicine, Jefferson Health, Geisinger Health System, and Temple Health. These systems have established immigration processes for internationally trained nurses and regularly file H-1B and PERM petitions. Smaller regional hospitals and long-term care networks also sponsor, though their processes tend to be less standardized and timelines can vary significantly.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B visa applies to registered nurses in specialty roles requiring a bachelor's degree in nursing, though it is subject to the annual lottery. The EB-3 immigrant visa is widely used for nurses pursuing permanent residence through employer sponsorship and PERM labor certification. Some Filipino and other internationally trained nurses also enter through the TN visa if Canadian or Mexican, or via retrogression-aware EB-3 pathways coordinated with employers.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for the majority of sponsored nursing positions, driven by their concentration of large academic medical centers and health systems. Allentown, through Lehigh Valley Health Network, and Hershey, through Penn State Health, also generate consistent sponsorship activity. Rural and community hospitals across central and western Pennsylvania occasionally sponsor but at lower volume and typically for harder-to-fill specialties.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate lists nursing roles in Pennsylvania filtered specifically for international candidates who need visa sponsorship. You can search by specialty, region, and visa type to identify which health systems are actively hiring. Because sponsorship availability changes with hiring cycles and immigration caps, checking Migrate Mate regularly gives you the most current picture of which Pennsylvania employers have open sponsored nursing positions.
Are there state-specific considerations for internationally trained nurses seeking sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
International nurses must obtain a Pennsylvania RN license from the State Board of Nursing, which requires passing the NCLEX-RN and having credentials evaluated through a recognized service such as CGFNS. Pennsylvania's large academic health systems often have in-house immigration teams, which can streamline the sponsorship process. Nurses in critical care, operating room, and behavioral health specialties tend to see stronger employer interest given persistent statewide shortages in those areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
